May 10, 200817 yr Yep, it's a good album. Not much compared to their first few albums, but a real treat among a maelstrom of indie pish. was expecting it to do better as they've had quite a bit of positive press - but i guess sales-wize i guess the concept of 'Turner does Engel' is more sexy than 'Staples does Hazelwood'. with beggars closing down the label that tindersticks are on i wonder where they will end up Rough Trade i think will be better than XL or 4AD
May 11, 200817 yr It's not exactly to the standard of classic Tindersticks, but, hey, I'll take it any day over c**p, haircut bands like The Kooks or One Night Only....
May 11, 200817 yr Author i cant compare it to the first 3 Tindersticks records but imo its better than the last 2. its the first tindersticks record since 1997 that i want to hear again n again.n again.
May 12, 200817 yr i cant compare it to the first 3 Tindersticks records but imo its better than the last 2. its the first tindersticks record since 1997 that i want to hear again n again.n again. Well, when I stated "classic Tindersticks" I was referring more to the first three albums, the much older stuff from the early '90s.... ;) It's a good, solid album all in all, and like I say, even an average (by their standards..) Tindersticks album trumps about 99% of today's rather bland (s)indie scene.... I'd love for Gallon Drunk to make a big comeback as well..... :cheer:
May 12, 200817 yr They'd be ok on 4AD, either that or they'll move on to Cooking Vinyl or the like. well there's less options now Sanctuary's gone - tho I see the latest fall album hadnt been shifted to W14 or Fiction and has been co-opted into the Universal Catalogue Marketing department with all the old Therapy? and Bluetones re-issues I'd love for Gallon Drunk to make a big comeback as well..... :cheer: I dont know any of their stuf - even tho I've read quite a few reviews of re-issued stuff by them - so are they very similar to Tindersticks then and/or Nick Cave?? between these two acts is where i would place them
