^ I'm glad someone else has picked up on it.

It's not just one post that's negative, it's every single post and it repeats the same thing.

... but so do the fans!

this aint a 'we love the saturdays' forum, its open for debate and imho the 'fans' are getting carried away with their own hype.

im naturally very sceptical over any 'the next best thing' as ive heard it all before ... and most of the time 'the next best thing' disappears without a trace!

if you bother to read the thread youll see that i praised 'issues' and that id be happy to see the saturdays becoming a success... thats not negative.

It's no achievement that The Saturdays got playlisted by Radio 1. It certainly wasn't off the back of them being themselves. Polydor are PLOWNG a huge amount of money into them, taking a big risk in the process. Rather than slowly courting interest they're going all out to get them heard. They'll be paying huge amounts to TV and Radio to play 'This Is Love'.

It's a high risk strategy as I said. Polydor could have done with testing the waters tbh first. The girl group market is certainly small and in a current music climate emphatic on organic and creative mediums I wonder if a group so glaringly manufactured and as soulless as The Saturdays will be able to make it big.

But the fact Polydor have thrown so much money at them to get them played everywhere means they'll have a semi-hit irrespective of quality/interest. We'll just have to see if it's enough for the record label in a few months time...

precisely! well said.

If you are going to sample a song:

1. Make sure the melody written over the top is better than the original.

2. Make sure the vocalists are better than the original singer.

3. Make sure the original act is still not around to cash in with a reissue full of dance remixes.

As the Saturdays have failed to achieve any of the above, then they will be exposed for the talentless non entities that they clearly are:

I'm not bothered what anyone else thinks I absolutley love It and can't get enough of them atm.
Do you fancy the pants off of Frankie or something? Vocally she probably contributes the least to the group but for some odd reason you keep insisting on singling her out... The Saturdays are a group, not a solo girl with a nice arse.

oh frankie is a looker, she is blessed i that department, and i have no idea wether or not she has a nice arse! and no, i dont fancy her, but her contribution on that live show was appauling compared to the others. ......

I just wondered why you always seem to be bringing her up. :heehee:

she was 'the mother' in sc8... her and stacey had the leading singing roles, they were the ones who were expected to continue in music .... shes certainly not the most gifted singer in the saturdays, i reckon shes the 'eye candy'.

Yes she was.

I think the song is much better than the Yazoo track by far (and whilst were on the topic of that why at 00.48 does Alison Moyet suddenly change the key of the song without any of the backing changing with her, the same at 01.16 and many more occasions? - it sounds awful) and has much better vocals. 'If This Is Love' is actually a hard song to sing and i think the girls have really unique and strong voices - with the Frankies being the worst out of the lot.

All i can say is we.will.see...

All i can say is we.will.see...

indeed... if the saturdays become iconic, influencial, and shift more units then yazoo then im sure us doubters will hold our hands up and admit we were wrong!

but lets face it.... not one of them 5 can compare with alison moyet, one of our greatest ever female vocalists. i wonder where frankies mob will be in nearly 30 years?

Yes she was.

The Saturdays will never be in the same league as Yazoo. I'm by no means a fan of Yazoo but their music has had a significant effect on the musical landscape of the last 20 years. Whereas The Saturdays are a manufactured plastic girl group who probably will not even be here in 5 years time. Let alone 25 years later and more like Yazoo.

As for the better vocals on ITIL well, it's auto-tune, they can't sing it live as they've already proved so computerised is perhaps a better descrption of their vocal abilities.

My words to yourself a few pages back in this thread seem expectantly fitting don't they?

However influential Yazoo may have been, Alison Moyet has an absolutely dreadful voice. It really is FOUL.

Given the prejudice around this kind of pop music, especially by a new girlband like these, I think the label making sure they actually get the song out there to the kind of audience they're aiming for is the wisest move.

In 2007 Mojo Magazine ran a poll amongst its readers for the Greatest British Female vocalists of all-time.

Alison Moyet finished 4th (just ahead of Annie Lennox), behind a Top 3 that I certainly could not pick any holes in......

1st Dusty Springfield

2nd Sandy Denny

3rd Kate Bush

Still no doubt you think Cheryl Cole, Geri Halliwell & Rachel Stevens are better singers than those three as well.

Still if you think Alison Moyet has a dreadful voice....... well I'm just speechless.

Alison Moyet - Wishing You Were Here (Live)

When the various ex-S Club Juniors are still having chart success & still having critically acclaimed Top 20 albums & sell out tours in the UK in 2028, then I think they've earnt the right to be compared to Alison Moyet. (After all why do you think with the emergence of Amy Winehouse in 2003, were her record company (Island) hailing her the greatest new British female vocal talent in 20 years since Alison Moyet!!) Until then you've made yourself look rather silly.

I haven't made myself look 'rather silly' in the slightest - you have if anything, by denying me the right to an opinion. Like I'm sure you have read, I'm not denying her contribution to the industry - I merely think that her voice is dire. It makes me want to hurt things. And you can stick your poll, because the British public's favourite newspaper is The Sun, which really says everything about taste that you could ever need to know.

And for the record, I think those three bitches can barely put out a note to save their lives.

ndeed... if the saturdays become iconic, influencial, and shift more units then yazoo then im sure us doubters will hold our hands up and admit we were wrong!

Did i ever say they'd become iconic or influential? No.

Come back when you've seen them live more than once on their tv performance ... auto-tune MY ARSE.

Yazoo need to go somewhere else now, because this thread is for The Saturdays.
