Like I say though, this is not a Forum merely for the doling out of info, BJ is about DEBATING the merits or demerits of a paticular band, group, film, TV show, whatever... BJ is an ENTERTAINMENT DISCUSSION forum, NOT a place where information and ONLY information is doled out... This is not a forum purely for the promotion of a band, film, etc, youwant that sort of thing, go on the Wesbsite or the Myspace page where it will be info and only info, release dates, etc.....

Mate, we've seen bands like this come and go SO OFTEN it's unreal..... It's called an "educated guess" based upon over TWO DECADES of being heavily into music of all varieties and genres, you'll understand when you've got that experience dude...... The Saturdays are simply not "special" enough to be in the league of Girls Aloud, Spice Girls or Sugababes. Not that they're my thing, but GA, Sugababes and Spice Girls have something about them that set them above the likes of The Saturdays....

Sorry, but I cant take you seriously if you respond to valid arguments based upon actual musical knowledge by going off in a big girly strop and don't come back with an effective counter..... I compare the standard of this debate to the standard of the one regarding Goldfrapp over on "Specialist Music"... There were good arguments and counter arguments there, here, it's just kids going off in a cream puff and calling us older music fans "boring".....

My point is, that if you take a position, BACK IT UP..... Dont just storm off in a huff and say "bloody old gits, what do they know....?". Well, that to me is what's "boring".....

 

We've had good discussions regarding Goldrapp, each person taking a position and actually arguing their case, probably nobody did actually change their minds about the song we were discussing (and it wasn't really the purpose of the arguement anyway...), but we sure had a good set of points from all concerned.... That is DEBATE my friend.... I cant respect people who have nothing to say for themselves..... In fact, what is even the point of taking part in an Internet forum if you dont have an effective argument to contribute...?

 

I mean, sorry, but I tend to believe that musical debate should go a little bit beyond "this rules" or "this sucks".... Call me old fashioned.....

That wasn't the point though was it Jark...? How many people watch stuff like "Question Time" and actually change the way they vote because of what is said on the show....? Very few, if any.... The point is the DEBATE ITSELF and hearing different sides of things.....

Mate, the reason why they're being "shot down" is because they are saying nothing....

 

And of course the debate on Goldfrapp had an effect, we ultimately DID come to an understanding of each other's position, debate isn't necessarily about changing people's minds... Sometimes the journey is more worthwhile than arriving at the destination, know what I mean....? Man, if you dont at least get that, then I dunno.....

oh lord.... some still dont get it... it aint about dissing them per se, its about having the mental capacity to either debate a point intelligently, or take criticism on the chin in an adult manner!

 

id suggest you use this oportunity to learn how to debate, and that 'being right' isnt always what its about, but indulging in the dynamics of debate... look and learn whats going on here because it aint just about a bunch of old miseries entertaining themselves.

i agree.... jark's ok... he took onboard what we told him soon after joining when he posted in perspectives, ok hes wot... 14? 15?.. that matters not, he tried ... thats what mattered.

I hadn't got onto the name yet, but have been meaning to.... The Saturdays.... Sh!t man, sounds like some generic (s)Indie Haircut group to me tbh..... I cant help but think of early 90s Indie band The Sundays, fronted by a lady named Harriet Wheeler... Of course this association is to insult The Sundays grossly, they actually had songwriting talent.....
