Doesnt he just - and every time I think he has got it - something goes wrong, and generaly nothing to do woth his own efforts. Seeing the silver lining though, he has had much praise for the part, and I am sure this has given him credibility in Theatre land.

I was just so happy about this. So were his parents - until the media started their usual treatment of him. The reviews were good for him but, the way the media reported was very negative. I don't blame him for moving away from the UK. I'm just sorry he needs to and wish we could keep track of how he's doing.

The Scottish Mail On Sunday wrote it up like Darius had blown it, shot himself in the foot.

They wrote more or less the same story with the saga of the cancelled previews, length, bad reviews, poor uptake etc. but the angle re Darius was slightly different.

I have to paraphrase because I don't have the paper - the journalist says that after his role in Guys and Dolls he was seen as one of the upcoming stars of the West End and then goes on to quote all the worst of the critics' summations about GWTW the show as if they had any relation to what the same critics said about Darius. That makes me mad - anyone reading it would think darius wasn't good in the show.

Does anyone remember any of the nationals giving Darius one word of praise during or after Guys and Dolls or any of them writing anything about him being a potential future star of the West End before, during or after the tenth anniversary of Chicago? They kept that admiration quiet. Funny how that always happens to Darius. It was Kelly Osbourne, Denise van Outen and Duncan James who dominated every paper and magazine I saw.

I shouldn't have put begun. It was lovely reading all the good Darius reviews even when they swpoilt themselves by then slating a show i really like.
The front page picture was captioned Disaster for Darius. It was a picture from the finale with the grey in his hair and the picture on page 3 was the one of him dancing with Jill. I really love that picture.

I wonder if it's have been 'his' success if it had been promoted better and continued it's run?

The media would still have found some way to downplay his part in the success.

Fortunately the first night of Gone With The Wind was one that attracted a lot of VIPs and theatre people. They will have seen Darius's performance with their own eyes - that at least cannot be downplayed - and they may well remember him in years to come when they're looking for someone just perfect for a particular role they have in mind.

Darius has pretty much left his career up to fate these past few years and until now, something has always turned up out of the blue when even he least expected it. I think he takes the media in his stride and doesn't worry about them. It's us who get annoyed at the injustice, not Darius.
