Will In New York, UK

Will's just returned from a fleeting trip to New York, where he had a fantastic time.

The main reason for his visit was to go to a rather glamorous party hosted by Jefferson Hack and Christopher Bailey for the spring issue of Another Man magazine.

Will stayed at his friends' house and, because the weather was so fantastic, spent the rest of the weekend strolling around the city, reading in Central Park and getting up close to the Statue of

Liberty on the Staten Island Ferry.

Now he's back in Blighty, Will's finessing the new album, relaxing with friends and very much enjoying riding his bike.

Thanks to Rosie on D. So the album's all but done - :cheer:

I reckon so - he's got the video to do as well - I don't want to wish away the summer but I can't wait for the first single - hopefully around the end of August.

I'm quite happy for the summer to whiz by.

Just been working out it's only 7 weeks till Glastonbury, that will take us to July, then we have T in the Park & then we should have the single. :w00t:

There's also the Isle of Wight gig. Thanks for bringing the update over. Now all we need for the next update is the name of the single, name of the album, the dates of the releases, and dates for everything else that goes with releasing an album.

I could get seriously excited about this.

WILL IN THE INDEPENDENT

To honour Jarvis Cocker talking about the art of songwriting at the Brighton Festival, The Independent is today running a feature on what makes a good lyric.

And Will is featured in this piece where he talks about his lyrics for ‘Home’.

He reveals, ‘I was definitely heartbroken when I wrote that. It means a lot to me because it’s a sad song but there’s positivity in it. I think that’s what songs should be.’

Read the feature here.

'Home'

Tell me, how did we fall into this place

We move on, we will never be replaced

And I can't even think about the next

It's too far away

First I must forget, by leaving I am a different man...

"Home" is the first song I wrote with Nitin Sawhney. Quite often when you write your first song with someone you get your best as there's a bit of nervous chemistry going on. I was definitely heartbroken when I wrote that. It means a lot to me because it's a sad song but there's positivity in it. I think that's what songs should be - I don't think there should be slit-your-wrists songs. Joni Mitchell said songs have a utility to them and I think about that when writing. That's describing a situation which is desperately sad, a sad resignation. You try your best and something has to come to an end.

Thanks Sunday - you beat me to it :P

I love his own lyrics - they have an entirely different feel to them than those written for him - because they are so personal.

Another one - thanks to Anne on D:

Do we know who dumped who the second time? He certainly didn't seem so upset as the first time, or is that my imagination.

Not sure chrysalis but like you I get the feeling that it may have been Will that finally ended it this time.

Agree about the lyrics to Home.  Wonder what telling lyrics we'll get on the new album.

Going by his ad libs at the LN gig I'd say it was likely to have been him. It was an on-off-on romance so maybe he just decided enough was enough, but it must still have hurt.

I doubt much will be happening on the Will front Suggy - enjoy your plans for your son's visit.
