May 11, 200817 yr Author I have a feeling there are a couple of songs in the top ten people will not agree with, but its all a matter of taste I suppose which is what makes the ESC great! some people are loving Turkey and Israel's songs this year which to me are quite frankly boring and dull
May 11, 200817 yr Author Oh my :heehee: I'm awaiting the translated version which will doubtless have a few excerpts of English-mangling genius a la 'get you to my bad ass spinning for you' there's going to be an English version :o If they plan to tour at any point they definitely need to get in touch with Untouched :kink:

May 11, 200817 yr Author i really wanted Romania to win  This is one of my favourite songs ever on Eurovision  Oh, Let Me Try was quite good :D nothing amazing in my opinion though
May 11, 200817 yr Excellent countdown Rich. :w00t: Katrina & the Waves are probably my favourites of the lot. Jessica Garlick and Mando are both excellent too. :D Love Ruslana and Lena Philipsson too. ^_^
May 12, 200817 yr Author 10. Selma - All Out Of Luck (Iceland - 2nd, 1999) F_yEOFVmbfk Yes, fine Charlotte Nilsson was amazing and perfect but Iceland were robbed in 1999...Selma's astonishingly good and uplifting pop song has got me through some challenging times in the past and is a great summer anthem...goes down as one of the great Eurovision runners up...poor Iceland, perhaps Euroband will put their fortunes back on track in a matter of days!
May 12, 200817 yr Author 9. Birgitta - Open Your Heart (Iceland, 8th 2003) mj2hpUBtcOQ I don't recall ever seeing a better opening song in the Eurovision than this...Iceland were back on track once again in 1999 with this absolutely excellent, catchy pop song. Me and my sister had a running joke that she looks like a human version of the old Cadbury's Caramel Bunny. Quite frankly, Birgitta wiped the floor with Sertab and Urban Trad and should have won in 2003...8th is a criminal finish
May 12, 200817 yr Author 8. Carola - Invincible (Sweden - 5th, 2006) EluyiH5YciU After a gap of 15 years, Queen Carola decided to try again for Sweden and Evighet trounced the competition in Melodifestivalen 2006. Changed to Invincible for the Eurovision, this song is typical Swedish schalger but sung by a lady that for some reason I have a soft spot. Inspired choreography and a fierce wind machine ensured yet another 5th place finish for the Swedes!
May 12, 200817 yr Author 7. Vanilla Ninja - Cool Vibes (Switzerland - 8th, 2005) MmdCG15Oc4o A song that defines the word 'grower' this atmospheric pop rock song by Estonian girl band Vanilla Ninja was in fact representing Switzerland in 2005 and finished in 8th place despite leading at the half way point (which I had been extremely excited about). The song does not really sound like a typical Eurovision song but should have at least finished top five. Interestingly it broke a record in my personal chart, being the longest running No.2 of all time in my chart spending 5 weeks in the runners up spot in June/July 2005 (still doing well a full 2 months after the contest!)
May 12, 200817 yr Author 6. Charlotte Perrelli – Hero (Sweden - TBC, 2008) Back again but with a different name, the Swedish 1999 winner, the now married Charlotte Perrelli has returned with a better song this time around and is the overwhelming fan fave this year, but with the heavy Eastern influence of recent years, she'll probably end up 5th again, hopefully not lower or I'll scream. A modern update of the traditional schlager sound with a killer chorus and of course a key change, I would love it if this won! EZ7U6WcsCRY

May 12, 200817 yr Ooh lots of Scandi-pop in the top ten. :w00t: All great stuff though, and yeah Iceland were robbed. In hindsight I don't really see how Sweden won that year - the song is very average.
May 12, 200817 yr Author I liked Take Me To Your Heaven but not as much as All Out Of Luck I wouldn't have minded a win for Diamond Of Night either...and there's another 1999 song in the top five! what a great year
May 13, 200817 yr Author You only have 5 slots left for Visionary Dream. ;) you won't find it here :P
May 13, 200817 yr Author 5. Precious - Say It Again (UK - 12th, 1999) mzAgxHigtBk I wasn't overly interested in Eurovision back in 1999 and I bought this Precious song on single in Woolies the week it came out, not even realising it was associated with the contest, though the sticker on the front soon put me right. A gorgeous R&B pop song typical of the late 90s, it remains one of my favourite songs to this day, and their future singles and debut album were all brilliant...should have finished top ten.
