4. Gina G - Ooh…Aah Just A Little Bit (UK - 8th, 1996)

If ever there was a song that underperformed in Eurovision, this was it. In the same way as Congratulations and Volare (or whatever it was originally called!), this song took on a life of its own, sold close to a million copies in the UK and was a huge hit worldwide. One of my favourite songs of all time, its slick and uplifting Europop. While the juries were voting for Ireland (again), this was the one time that the UK truly deserved to win...no wonder they introduced televoting the following year

3. Daz Sampson - Teenage Life (United Kingdom - 19th, 2006)

Fair enough Scooch not doing well, but Daz was robbed...like a UK version of Scooter, Daz had been making cheesy Euro songs since 1998's Kung Fu Fighting. Teenage Life was a charming ode to schooldays which may have been taken more seriously if not sung by a man in his mid-30s wearing a bright yellow jacket. The melody itself, for me, was and still is absolutely irresistible, like a cross between Black Eyed Peas' Where Is The Love and Shanks & Bigfoot's Sing A Long. A great summery song, I was elated when this reached the UK top ten, at least one country realised how good it was (well, and the ten that gave it points on the night too!)

2. Tanel Padar & Dave Benton - Everybody (Estonia -1st, 1999)

I know its amongst the least popular winnners of all time but I can't understand why. To me, it was a breath of fresh air. 2001 had some great songs but none were quite as different, fresh and uplifting as this one. Why it was emitted from the 'Ultimate Eurovision Party' album I don't know, because its a brilliant party track. The choruses are good, the bridge is absolutely amazing and the chorus is excellent too, though all credit to the brilliant harmonies from backing band 2XL. For me, one of the most, not least deserving winners, and another reason that Estonia need to go back to whatever formula they had ten years ago...

1. Ira Losco - 7th Wonder (Malta - 2002, 2nd)

The minute this came on in 2002 I was blown away by the sweet charm of Malta's Ira Losco. The melody was gorgeous, the chorus was just about the most memorable thing I've heard in Eurovision this decade while the 'blowing the glitter out of her hand' trick was a great addition to the performance. I was absolutely devestated when Marie N's bland striptease beat the most deserving non-winner of all time. By far Malta's best entry, and by quite some way, my favourite Eurovision song of all time, that I absolutely adore and still listen to throughout the year!

it's a shame but i hardly can better 2002 Eurovision (as well as 2003 :kink: 2004 a little :kink: and of course earlier years)

:( :( i'm trying to find songs of 2000-2005 but fail so far

Lovely #1 and #2. I think everbody likes Estonia 2001 at least a little - just no one would admit it. Malta was good too.

Here's what I think Rich. :D

1. Ira Losco - 7th Wonder

An alright song, I find it a bit too twee though. If that makes sense.

2. Tanel Padar & Dave Benton - Everybody

Nooooooo! Worst winner of the 21st Century!

3. Daz Sampson - Teenage Life

You can't beat a bit of Daz.

4. Gina G - Ooh…Aah Just A Little Bit

Best song ever? Quite possibly! It was my first single too. :D

5. Precious - Say It Again

This and James Fox are probably my least favourite ESC songs of the past ten years or so. :(

6. Charlotte Perrelli – Hero

Excellent song, really beginning to love it atm!

7. Vanilla Ninja - Cool Vibes

Should've done better - this was a fantastic song that deserved a Serebro-style result. I guess Switzerland's geographical position halted this one's chances of coming third though.

8. Carola - Invincible

Amazing song. And btter than Ms. Perrelli I think!

9. Birgitta - Open Your Heart

I like this. ^_^ A great opener that deserved to do a bit better than 81 points.

10. Selma - All Out Of Luck

Should've won. That Nilsson winner was and is incredibly overrated.

The only one I don't like is Malta 2003, soooo boring. And you must be the only one who loves Estonia 2004.

And Antique only #40?

Cheers for the comments David! yes I understand your point about Ira, it was a bit too nicey-nice :P Gina is amazing, such a great song and usually not even in a Eurovision context  Vanilla Ninja would be top 3 for Russia without a doubt :o

I'm very forgetfull when it comes to eurovision songs, was estonia's winning song like....."Come on everybody" repeated lots of times

Sopho Khalvashi - Visionary dream would be at the top of my top 40 , thats the first eurovision song I constantly sang to myself all the time.

Wow! I've finally found somebody else who likes "Come On Everybody!"

Just because it isn't schlager / Europop seems to be enough to turn most people off....

I don't think 7th Wonder is a classic, but overall a good top 40.

cheers Peter, I do love my schlager and Europop but Everybody really stood out for me in 2001 and I was surprised but happy when it won...the bridge is my favourite part, I absolutely love it

I meant Estonia 2001.

BTW, what's your fave Portuguese ESC song ever?

  • Author

I've never loved a Portugese song but I liked MTM (2001), Rita Guerra (2003) and 2B (2005)

Vania is probably the best Portugese entry for many many years though and should do quite well in my opinion
