Posted May 10, 200817 yr Jim's Personal Top 40 Week #1 [11-05-2008] Chart Commentary Earlier in the year, I did do a month of personal charts before taking a break due to lack of time. Despite exam season being upon us, I've decided to restart this; I guess it'll provide some light relief from hard work in the coming weeks :lol: I won't make too many comments this week, as it's the first edition and thus there's no movement, but I'll just say a couple of things. '4 Minutes', with its horn-driven beat and its catchy hooks, has been my favourite song for a while and mentally has been 'top of my chart' for a good 5 weeks now. May 16, 200817 yr Author Jim's Personal Top 40 Week #2 [18-05-2008] Chart Commentary My chart comes a day early this week, as I need something to distract myself from the tedium that is Geography revision :drama: Madonna's reign comes to end this week, as she falls to no.4. The Ting Tings, who came close last time, usurp the Queen of Pop at the top with the insanely catchy 'That's Not My Name'. Hot on their heels are two more relatively new acts; Bon Iver storms in at no.2, whilst Fleet Foxes move up a couple of spots with their EP. Rihanna is this week's high climber, rising a massive 23 places - I really didn't like this upon first listen, and whilst I concede it's still nowhere near as good as a lot of her other singles, I now quite like it. May 29, 200817 yr Author Jim's Personal Top 40 Week #3 [25-05-2008] Chart Commentary I'm releasing this on a Friday again as I'm off to Wembley tomorrow, so shan't be around ;) There's PLENTY of movement this week, with a host of songs tumbling more than 10 spots [the accolade for biggest fall goes to Death Cab For Cutie, down from 20 to 38 - ouch]. However, The Ting Tings cling on to the number one spot with the infectious 'That's Not My Name', fending off a stiff challenge from Vampire Weekend's 'Oxford Comma'. Rihanna creeps into the top 5, and possibly could rise higher. Pendulum are the highest new entry; it took me a while to even consider listening through the whole song, but I love 'Propane Nightmares' now and don't be surprised to see this climb next week. May 30, 200817 yr Author Jim's Personal Top 40 Week #4 [01-06-2008] Chart Commentary Obviously I like every chart that I do, but I think this is my favourite top 40 yet :heart: Vampire Weekend prevent the Ting Tings from a 3rd week at the summit, rising one place this week. Rihanna continues to climb within the top 10, though the chances of her reaching number one are most likely over now. Bon Iver leaps back into the top 5 after a strange fall, Pendulum build on last time's high new entry, and Portishead and Elbow continue their march upwards. June 11, 200817 yr Author Jim's Personal Top 40 Week #5 [08-06-2008] Chart Commentary I have broken my chart rules this week :o Normally I don't chart album tracks, but I just had to put 'Disturbia' in because it is undoubtedly the song I've listened to and liked the most in the past week. It becomes the first track to debut right at the top and is one of two Rihanna songs in the top 15. 'Take A Bow' has taken a knock due 'Disturbia' though, and has almost certainly begun a downward slide. Elsewhere, Late Of The Pier enjoy a massive jump of 20 places to catapult up to no.2, and the Mystery Jets leap into the top 10 with a noteworthy rise of their own. I have to say, it was VERY close from 2 to 12 this week, making this possibly the most difficult chart I've had to order yet. They hold off a strong challenge from Portishead, which seems fitting as the pair have produced two of my absolute favourite albums this year. Rihanna slips to 4 with 'Disturbia', though 'Take A Bow' stabilizes further down the chart. The rest of the top 10 consists mainly of songs that were in similar positions last time, with the obvious exception being Madonna, who slams in at 8 with the highly danceable 'Give It 2 Me'. Signifcant new entries this week are Sonny J and Ladyhawke, both of which are challengers for the top next week with their respective tracks. July 11, 200817 yr Author Jim's Personal Top 40 Week #10 [13-07-2008] Chart Commentary I'm back :o [if anybody cares!] I haven't posted my last couple of charts to an unremitting lack of time, but I've found a window to get things back up and running this week. Eagle-eyed posters might've already noticed that weeks 8 and 9 were exactly the same - a consequence of the aforementioned busyness. Anyway, let's get to the music. Camille climbs to the top with the quirky 'Money Note', meaning she does actually beat Mariah [who is #8]! Noah And The Whale storm up to no.2 and will be heavy favourites to ascend one more spot next week. The rest of the top 5 is occupied by bands that have had top 5 singles in the past; The Ting Tings will be hoping to emulate the success of 'That's Not My Name' with their new hit. Dizzee Rascal falls to number 6, although he does hold the accolade of being only the second act to have a song at number one for more than a week thus far. [That said, it was pretty much by default due to the frozen chart of the previous week].
