Police chiefs were yesterday accused of fiddling crime figures after it was claimed that car vandalism is not an offence.

Senior officers say smashed car windows should not automatically be classified as criminal damage if nothing is stolen.

And they even accused front line bobbies of being "too quick" to assume that an offence has been committed when motorists report damage to their vehicles.

So do you think car vandalism is an offence?

Are we too lenient on criminals in this country?

Should all vandals be punished?

That's ridiculous

Of course it is an offence. The poor victim now has the inconvinience of sorting out insure claims and if rejected has to cover the cost of damages. The also can't really drive a car whilst windows are smashed.

Whether something is stolen or not is irrelevant, all criminal damage including vandalism should be taken seriously. Though, the police should not have to spend time filling in countless number of forms each time a crime is committed.
