As much as I loved Stone Roses, well, let's face it, they only did the ONE good album.... Muse, I also like, but it's not to the point of obsession as with the four true greats here.... Green Day I just never really took to, and AC/DC for me just lost something when Bon Scott died which they never got back....

The Clash are just THE SH!T, the best Punk band in terms of music and lyrics, Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies and NIN are just fukkin' LEGENDS. If you ever want to know which bands really defined "alternative" music culture, it was NIN, Pixies and Pumpkins.... The wretched likes of MCR and Good Charlotte can just fukk off.....

The Clash

Stone Roses

Pixies

Smashing Pumpkins

I agree with Mr Fiendish on this one, except NIN just haven't ever done it for me. Mind you, I was only really a big fan of the Pumpkins' 'Siamese Dream'...but both are better than Green Day who grew tiresome very, very quickly and Muse who, despite being ace live, just haven't convinced me musically.

While the Roses only did one album that was of any note, it was rather good if overrated.

AC/DC belong to a genre I pay no mind whatsoever.

Nope, The Pixies and The Clash are streets ahead of everyone else in this heat.

I dont know - prefer Ian Brown solo than what I've heard of the Stone Roses 1st album and I don't know the second... so thats why I've marked them down

No but I think the thought of Big Audio Dynamite might have come into my mind at that time  they seem to be bad by name bad by nature  - tho i could be proved otherwised (tho think going to PWEI might be better idea first)

as for Green Day - dont mind them even though i dont own any of there records - its more the thing thats in my grungey brother's collection - yeah i suppose a lot of it is just powerpop punk to stadium rock but guess until i get like Sardinister and all that stuff by the Clash - i need to get a fuller picture of the clash - but then again im not gonna spend hours decideing on the definitive order of things tbh further down the list

think i need to find the Rachid Taha album   or Will 2K  (tho Sparks did a great version of We Are The Clash on an old Uncut CD - brilliant version)

unfortunately we have a tie between 4 bands to be eliminated

but due to the amount of popularity discussed on this forum i have decided to save NIN and AC/DC

so that means the elliminations go to Green Day and the Stone Roses

I think that's too arbitrary. How do you know which is more popular?

AC/DC are not more popular than either Green Day or Stone Roses!

AC/DC have sold over 200 million albums worldwide

Back In Black is the fifth best selling album EVER in the USA and the 2nd highest selling album EVER in the world behind Thriller

Green Day have sold 72 million albums worldwide so to even reach the combined total of AC/DC Stone Roses will have had to have sold 128 million albums which I would find it very hard to believe is the case

AC/DC are on another level in terms of global album sales to the bands you mentioned so AC/DC are more popular
