Absolutely amazing track from an absolutely amazing album. There is nothing I can add because it just wouldn't do this track justice.

so 'Portishead's 'Third' didn't even gain a nomination in this year's Mercury Music Prize.....

No 'best of '08' list could possibly be complete minus this classic album IMO..... any thoughts?

Its pretty sad that it hasnt been nominated. Clearly one of the best albums of 08.

The only explanation i can think of is that their record company didnt put the album forward for consideration...As i believe that is actually how the Mercury prize works.

Shocking to be sure....

But like Ryan said, could be a case of the company not actually putting it up, maybe even the band themselves not wishing it to be put up, Portishead aren't exactly fame/media junkies, they always guard their privacy to maintain that aura of mystery...

Yeah, the album is the best album of the year by far but they have been involved with the Mercury Music Prize before so I don't necessarily think it's a case of it being ignored.

I found something interesting... a 6-part interview with Beth Gibbons from 1995. I'd never actually heard her speak before this.

That's really interesting, thanks for posting.

Beth Gibbons is a mate of a mate from Bristol..... her public persona's very different from her personal one - she's a pretty lairy full-on feminist with a rather rough lesbian other half - she ruined Geoff Barrow's wedding celebrations at his (rather sumptuous) house by drunkenly brawling with her girlfriend on the front lawn - a proper fists-out nsarling catfight by all accounts :P so the demure, reserved, troubled stage persona is just that - a persona.

I quite like that.
