I think my favourite Status Quo songs are the ones that were not quite typical for this band: Pictures of Matchstick Men (i think even Syd Barret could have been proud of such a song) and In The Army Now (Bolland Brothers' cover).

I don't like their standard three bars rock'n'rolls. Don't like Francis Rossi's voice either, which is no good for rock'n'roll, i believe. I would say, these guys are too predictable.

P.S. I first wrote down my post and then looked back and had found i almost repeated popchartfreak's post. Be sure it was not made deliberately :D

No worries, Andrey, I can add a few extra singles I rate like Paper Plane, Caroline, Down Down, Ice In The Sun, What You're Proposing, Living On An Island:)

Preferred these versions:

To each his own. Can agree with your first statement, but will never agree with the second one.

I have a bit of time for the Quo but Dire Straits are just beyond the pale.

Loved their early stuff such as Pictures Of Matchstick Men - Ice In The Sun - Black Veils Of Meloncholy - Technicolour Dream - Make Me Stay A Bit Longer - Are You Growing Tired of My Love - Price Of Love - Down The Dustpipe - In My Chair.

All their stuff up till late 1973 - I even like their music in the previous incarnations as Traffic Jam and Spectres.

Later than 1971 the music was boring apart from the odd hit such as In The Army Now.
