2. Am I the only person who thinks the stage shows are getting ridiculous? In my opinion these performers should have enough confidence in their own song that they don't need these huge shows to qualify.

 

Let's take Bulgaria for example (SPOILERS) electroharp, fireworks blasting off all over the place, huge and revealing red dress, flashing lights, something to change the DJ's voice [not sure what it's called], DJ booth on fire, and to round it all out break dancers. (END SPOILERS) Way over the top.

 

Croatia and Estonia are other violators.

 

3. Who will get the semifinal 12 points from Cyprus? (No Greece :kink: )

 

My first guess is Bulgaria. That's who that gave it to last year.

I think Bulgaria is this year's Lordi and will win by a large margin... followed by Russia and Ukraine.

As for the stage shows, my thoughts exactly: Croatia's female dancer, Russia's ice rink, Greece's 'opening' book, Ukraine's light boxes, Bulgaria's freak show (and the list goes on!) - it's just all a bit "much"! Really.

Still, I'm addicted!

Hmmm question 1:

 

Turkey will get the 12 - no doubt whatsoever about that.

Then Malta will get 10...I just think the UK audience will go for it.

Followed by Bulgaria with 8 and Ukraine with 7. Possibly 6 for Denmark

Latvia are bound to be in there since its such a novelty song so I'll say it gets 5.

Iceland will get 4 (I don't think it can expect much more from the UK to be honest)

The crazy British public will give something to Cyprus so I'll say 3 points.

Then the eye-candy from Belarus will be enough to get 2 points

And I am HOPING the UK audience has enough taste to give at least a single point to Portugal.

 

As for Sweden it is too "European" to appeal to the UK audience and to be honest I can see Charlotte doing a Kate Ryan anyway. She'll probably sneak through but it might be relying on the juries.

 

Question 2:

Big performances are fine for novelty entries, or big big lively songs like Bulgaria who need to put across the energy in their songs. What I don't like are stupid gimmicks for ordinary songs like Russia and Greece. Ukraine is fine as it is a slick professional performance and it underlines the power in the song. Depends on the song really, but yes I think some countries go over the top.

 

Question 3:

Cyprus will give 12 and 10 points to Bulgaria and Malta, but I'm not sure in which order.

 

 

its not like Turkey's song is as accessible as Shake It Up Shekerim is it :o I can't see anywhere near 12 points going to them from the UK...in fact I'm absolutely positive that the UK wouldn't give 12 points to a foreign language song...

 

also, Sweden not getting anything from the UK Peter :o before that happens, pigs will fly past my window

 

even The Ark and Carola got 7 points from Sweden...the very least Charlotte will get from the UK is 6 points, but I think she will get one of the top 3 marks

Yeah I reckon Sweden will get a few points from the UK should she qualify. We'll probably give Malta three or four in the semis, but I don't see them qualifying for the final. Can't see us voting big for Bulgaria or Turkey either, Sweden is possible but it'll be Ireland if they get through.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Ireland getting the 12! :o I still reckon they'll get through tbh...

I think people are missing the trick with this Bulgarian song :o its jumped up the bookies favourites in recent days, and is now 5th favourite with William Hill...it has a very good stage show, is a good song, has sufficient neighbour votes etc... etc..., I wouldn't be at all surprised if Bulgaria are the dark horse this year

Well maybe Sweden will get 2-3 points from the UK, but Charlotte has an atrocious draw (something which Carola's better song had going for it), and the Ark was something that appealed specifically to the UK I think. We don't tend to vote for generic European songs really. I can't see Sweden picking up many televotes in the semi-final from anybody really, and as you'll see in my predictions thread, I think she will have to rely on the juries.

none, but that's because the song wasn't the type of thing the UK votes for and the singer was completely out of tune...

well, perhaps they are more loyal to their neighbours than we are :P I don't think the UK has ever really been about political voting...though our results are now affected by diaspora voting
