September 21, 201113 yr I just didn't want Gill to think we were peculiar :P I prob think that Gll thinks we are a bit f* mental
October 1, 201113 yr Arrrrrrrgh, My laptop keeps freezing, I've had to switch it off six times and reboot. If I'm not around for a few days you will know why. hope it's just a glitch, but the way it's been behaving lately I somehow doubt it. It's destined for a dunk in the fish pond
October 1, 201113 yr My PC is doing the same. My son tells me that it's overheating. The old processors just used to close down but the new ones just 'throttle down'. If it gets too hot it just gives me a warning and closes down completely. Edited October 1, 201113 yr by munchkin

I know what it's like to be nettiless! :(

Think you are possibly right Chris, my fan has been making a bit of noise lately, especially when its doing a few tasks at once. When you say 'throttle down' would the laptop just freeze if it does that please? Mine isnt closing down completely but just can't do anything with it exept hold the 'on' button in till it eventually switches off, then when i reboot it comes up with the 'start Windows normally' option, I'm not sure how long i will be able to stay on, im not going to shut down till later, have some stuff to do in the garden this afternoon, hopefully i can get on later today. Fingers crossed. Thanks :D
October 1, 201113 yr What a pain! Sounds like it's been putting you through your paces Phil. It drove me nuts last night, think i switched it off and rebooted about 10 times, finally went to bed about 2am with a headache

He means that it slows down to a trickle in order for the processor to recover - as you say especially if it's trying to do too many things at once. I don't fully understand the technicalities but apparently computers have things running in the background so if you ask it to do too much it goes into a tizzy  I have four tabs open all the time - all four of Will's sites so it has to process information from those and can't always respond instantly. I used to hibernate when I left the computer if I intended coming back but it seemed to send it into a tailspin so now I have to close down completely every time. I think I just need a new bigger capacity hard-drive with a humungous fan  Edited October 1, 201113 yr by munchkin

I think I just need a new bigger capacity hard-drive with a humungous fan  Thanks Chris :) Ah yes that's probably what its doing, last night when I was reading the Guardian interview that Bev put up, I read the top bit, then I tried to scroll down and it was frozen, then it came back to life and shot down to the bottom of the article, then froze completely. ... another reboot. and froze again, so I gave up. yeah everything in the systems tray by the clock is running in the background. I do have a few things in there  I did have a few things open initially but after it kept freezing I just had BJ open and it was still freezing. at bigger capasity hard drive with humungus fan. it's damned annoying isnt it Chris  have you considered an external HDD, the only thing with them is that you can't access any software that you load on from a second computer, but if you want it for solely for your own laptop/pc they are great :D What a pain in the ass that you have to shut down everytime, that would get on me wick.
October 3, 201113 yr hi everyone., ive got no internet., im posting from my phone. Its a known problem so hopefully its fixed soon. Laptop is still freezing too. Im wondering if the two things are connected. Its taken me an age to get on here to post. No 3g here so wont stay on cos its doing my nut lol see you later .:) x
October 3, 201113 yr Author Sorry to hear your having problems phil. :( Seems we've all had our share lately. Hope it's soon sorted.
October 3, 201113 yr Thanks Sunday and Gill :D After all that on the phone ive just restarted laptop again and it seems to be sorted, fan is making a noise again now, only have BJ open, so we shall see, drove me nuts on my phone took me about half an hour to make one post   hope now the net is back properly, I hope the freezing stops now too, but im not holding my breath. October 4, 201113 yr I'm here on a wing and a prayer again, laptop is still freezing, Barry asked me to back up and remove anything that I want to keep and he will take my laptop into work for one of the whizz kids to have a look at, think it's going to be wiped and hopefully they will install XP for me, I think a lot of the problems are to do with Vista and the Windows updates, it's a shame that they have to make rubbish operating systems that do not improve, rather they are inferior to their predecessor  Not sure how long I will be able to stay on here till it all freezes up again. I got rid of some programs that i dont really use yesterday, then tried to defrag, but even that froze  Just going for a very quick read and then try and get some pics and music and my favourites all backed up and saved. Will just say thanks for all the news incase I suddenly disapear again

If it gets too hot it just gives me a warning and closes down completely. Hello everyone :D Laptop is behaving  but only since I stuck 4 rubber door stops on the bottom of my laptop  seems you were right Chris  I've spent 3 days tearing my hair out, scanning and uninstalling and deleting stuff  and all it seems to be is the poxy fan  Sounds like yours has gone the same way as mine Phil, it's infuriating isn't it? Hope you can get XP again, I wish I had it again on this one! That's what I thought Ros, but it seems as though all that was needed was a few 'legs' It looks hilarious. Ah well at least it's working   Looks like I've got a tad of catching up to do  glad to be back :D
October 6, 201113 yr Welcome back phil. Hope your legs hold out.  So do I, they are a bit rickety to say the least  ... Oh you meant the laptop 'legs' Ah yes they are ok at the mo  Only thing thats happening at the mo is BJ pages not totally loading and I keep getting the security message about, do you want to view just the secure part, hopefully that will just sort it's self out. :D Just going to sort some dinner out and I'll be back a bit later. :D
October 6, 201113 yr Glad to hear you're back in business Phil. Hope that has sorted it out. I was ringing up about mine again this pm as it keeps saying I need a Windows activation key, god knows why.
