May 17, 200817 yr actually i much prefer sandy posy 'single girl', similar subject but a much more wistful lament to the track, not so much the 'wo is me', self pitying type thing.

May 17, 200817 yr I have a copy of it on the original Major Minor label. It was this Sheffield girl's only hit. The story is about a blind orphan boy, nobody wanted to adopt him because he was blind. She just missed out though with a previous single, a cover of Cher's US '9 hit You Better Sit Down Kids. She also bubbled under with the follow-up to Nobody's Child - Allentown Jail Don't get mixed up with the US disco singer who had a minor hit with Hot Shot in the late 70s

Get the sexist lyrics! :o http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=K4wM_QCxBu0&...feature=related Sandy had 3 UK hits Born A Woman - #24 Single Girl - #15 What A Woman In Love Won't Do - #48 Single Girl was re-issued in 1975 peaking at #35 Sandy also recorded the original version of Sunglasses which was a #18 hit in 1984 for Tracey Ullman This was when country music charted in the UK - right up to the 80s. The subject is quite different than that of Nobody's Child Single Girl is about a girl who couldn't find anyone to marry her because of her looks.
