Anthony Kiedis has claimed that the Red Hot Chili Peppers have temporarily disbanded.

The frontman said the group had decided to take a hiatus because of the troubles they experienced recording their 2006 double album Stadium Arcadium.

Speaking about the period, Kiedis told Rolling Stone: "We actually took a very long time to make the record, because we wrote a lot of songs and then got way too married to them and decided we need it to be a double album.

"Which was a great experience, but it took forever."

He added: "We were all emotionally and mentally zapped at the end of that run.

"Cooler heads prevailed and the discussion at the end of our last tour was, 'Let's not do anything Red Hot Chili Peppers-related for a minimum of one year, and just live and breathe and eat and learn new things'."

Kiedis also said the veteran rockers hadn't enjoyed a proper break from music since 1999 when they released Californication

Looks like it'll be a while before their new album comes along then... i'd have thought late 2009 at the earliest.

It's for the best I suppose, can imagine they need some proper time off to get all hot and chilly again.

Didn't see them on tour last time they were in The Netherlands but if they ever visit again I'll make sure

to be there, front stage if possible.

its prob good they split for a while as they will make a better album i think but it does mean a long wait for a follow up to the disappointing stadium arcadium
