Posted May 20, 200817 yr I don't mean to say Dustin was bad......I thought he was good fun. But I'm really.....what's the word.....Disallusioned with Irelands future chances, I get this terrible feeling we're going to go back to love ballads or country songs next year. I just wonder if it's even possible for the people selecting songs for Ireland to actually get a winning song that would deserve it. (like Serbia last year) I just feels like we're either going to pull out or go back to doing what we're stereotypically best at, ballads or country songs. I just don't understand why it can't be taken more serious like Sweden take it! Ireland and it's people, when eurovision is mentioned usually go on to say "oh we won it seven times you know". We shouldn't be allowed to say that unless we can keep the standard up, I do believe Ireland can surpass block voting but the effort needs to be put in. I always feel like Irelands songs never fit in with eurovision and I know uniqueness is great and all but I hate the feeling that we're the ones standing in one corner while everyone else (almost everyone else anyway) are in the other corner. Hoping for next year though. -_- I'm sorry I don't it want to seem like I'm moaning or angry for Ireland not qualifying. This is how I've been feeling for awhile.
May 20, 200817 yr I must sound like a broken record, but... Leona Daly. -_- Might not have won, but would certainly have gone high I reckon.
May 20, 200817 yr The same countires qualify every year. Hell will freeze over before the likes of Greece, Turkey, Russia, Armenia etc fail to qualify. Ireland will stay in the semis with the likes of Belgium, Netherlands and Andorra for at least 20 years.
May 20, 200817 yr Last time we sent a good song it almost came paddy-last (2004). I think Ireland's time has run out.
May 20, 200817 yr Author I heard the netherlands are going to participate in 2009. I think we should take a leaf out of thier book and never give up. After all they haven't qualified for the final in ages while we have been in the final a few times. and you're forgetting we came 10th/11th with Brian kennedy so that shows other countries haven't completly ignored us over the years. May 20, 200817 yr Ireland didn't qualify? :o After all it's previous success and the hype around the chicken thing? Wow.
May 20, 200817 yr Ireland didn't qualify? :o After all it's previous success and the hype around the chicken thing? Wow. Nope, Dustin for the dustbin. :w00t: I'm glad it didn't to be honest, I'd have been even more annoyed that Andorra, Belgium and Moldova didn't make it. Edited May 20, 200817 yr by Adi_Gallia
May 20, 200817 yr I think what Ireland need to do is ut alot of effort in and go for the full package, they always seem to be missing an element, dont get me wrong i liked dustin this year and i was sure we wud go through,... I think tarditional music cud work but take dervish for example if that song was sped up and abetter singer with good dancing to it i think it cud have done much better it needed much more oooomoh for it to stand out... again a good song can do it for us,brian kennedy an dmickey jo harte did ok we just need to ork on that,,,,i dont think any song from the national song contest wud have qualified this year fiona daly may have had a chance but i wudnt have been confident either... all i know is i miss us not doing well, and i dont mean just winning i just miss us even coming top 10.i will watch eurovision saturday night but i wont be excited or have as much interest in it,,,then again my love for eurovision has dwindled every year bit by bit since 2000 and i dont enjoy it as much as i used to even when we do ok,,,,,i think the standard is gone down and the voting isnt as enjoyable or exciting as it used to and now more than ever with them onoy calling out the 8 10 and 12 scores
May 21, 200817 yr Boaz rules :drink: In fact Ireland did send the amazing song last year but the f***ing public didn't think so :arrr: I hated Eurovision last year only about that :(
May 21, 200817 yr well that's because the Irish woman was tone deaf...just as out of tune as Jemini and the Maltese guy in 2006 like the UK, Ireland could do well with a good song...I've never heard this Leona Daly song but I'm sure it was better than Dustin...Ireland Douze Points would have been rejected by 2Unlimited 15 years ago...
