Posted May 23, 200817 yr So, now we know the finalists, we can attempt to give proper predictions on how we think everyone will do - without having to guess at who will make the final! I went through the votes today, and came up with this, which I think is a fairly plausable guess myself. ^_^ Ukraine 273Russia 252Greece 214Armenia 163Portugal 157Serbia 150Turkey 143Sweden 129Azerbaijan 119Spain 105Latvia 98Finland 96Norway 89Iceland 89Bosnia-Herzegovina 82Albania 79Romania 52Poland 44Croatia 42United Kingdom 34Denmark 28Israel 22Georgia 18France 16Germany 0 Ukraine were leading all the way through by 15-30 points, so should that happen tomorrow we could be in for some pretty boring votes... Greece were second for ages but a load of former Soviet votes towards the end cemented Russia's position in second and ensured Ukraine were the victors. Initially, I did think Armenia would win, but 'Qele Qele' is being completely overshadowed by 'Shady Lady' now I think, and Sirusho's vocals aren't really all that. Still Armenia's best position of fourth though I reckon, and a top five for Portugal - I can see that doing really well, and going down pretty big in the hall. Many were predicting Jelena Tomasevic to be victorious for Serbia again, but I can see a bit of an "Anna Vissi" happening, though not quite as extreme. A fairly decent song from Turkey and a host of diaspora-influenced votes should see them come top ten, and I think fans of the Perrelli may be slightly disappointed this year; I can only envisage a top ten finish at best. That hideous Azeri song will no doubt go top ten due to it being fairly memorable and them apparently having a big diaspora, and the comic value from Spain should also see another western country go top ten. I'm hoping Spain and Latvia will sort of cancel each other out tbh, but both are aimed at different sorts of people, so I can see both doing reasonably well... Three more Nordic countries next, and I can see the Finns doing quite well, and they were actually top five for some of the time that I was going through this. Pretty middle of the road for Norway and Iceland too, but I think that's the best we can hope for from those two classics. I think an early draw could harm the chances of Bosnia-Herzegovina, and certainly can't see them going top ten at the expense of any of the above. Albania could be hoping to get a similar result to the Bosnians last year, with a fairly similar sort of song, but I can see Olta Boka falling a bit shorter really - not quite as good a song. Romania are tricky to predict. I should think they qualified fairly easily from their semi-final, but performing first in the final and having so much competition will be the death of them I think, can't see them doing any better than last year anyway... I seem to remember having Poland on top at one point near the start, but they soon fell to just 18th. Think this will get completely overshadowed, and I would've thought it only just got through its semi-final, and that's provided it didn't get the jury vote, which I think went to Norway. That bizarre Croatian song, and the third "novelty" entry of this year's contest will fare the poorest - poor song and only an old man to save it. Then again, Moldova 2005 did very well with an old woman, maybe I'm completely underestimating this? Next up is the United Kingdom. I actually think we'll get our best finish since 2002 now, points-wise anyway, I think James Fox finished higher than 20th but only got 29 points... I can see Andy picking up a few small points, maybe from San Marino as they'll probably use a jury as there'll be little interest there ala Andorra and Albania last year, and they may think it deserves a few more. Oh and Malta will have the hump again so I think we could be in for another 12 there! Denmark was clearly the jury vote of last night, and only a few points from Scandanavia will keep them clear of the bottom three I think. Israel and Georgia are difficult ones, as I'm pretty sure they probably qualified via the televote, but I can see them doing a "Latvia 2007" and really bombing. They're both nice songs, and Israel's is quite memorable, but I'm struggling to see people voting for these over other slower songs in the competition. France will get a few points from Andorra (provided they do a televote) and Israel probably, and maybe one or two from other countries, but I see Germany doing a "Jemini" and completely flopping. Song sounds hideous live, and I really can't see there being much of an audience for No Angels. So what does everyone else think? Post your predictions guys!
May 23, 200817 yr I think you're underestimating Denmark...I see top 10 for it myself...Ukraine would be a far better winner than Dima Boring-Bilan...and they would be the only country to win twice this decade!
May 23, 200817 yr I have to agree with Germany last...how did these girls win Popstars! don't you need to be able to sing live to win something like this
May 23, 200817 yr I have to agree with Germany last...how did these girls win Popstars! don't you need to be able to sing live to win something like this That's what I've been thinking. I love the studio version, but live they probably wouldn't have got through boot camp of the X Factor or maybe not even the auditions.
May 23, 200817 yr Author I thought Denmark might do what they did in 2005 to begin with, but now I reckon it'll just get lost tbh. Fairly memorable tune, but I think Andy's better tbh!
May 23, 200817 yr I would post my prediction. But then I said that Bulgaria would easily be Top 5 and Croatia wouldn't be in the Final.
May 23, 200817 yr my only prediction is that the uk will not win again, not even get a chance at top 20 probably. it's always the easterns that win. so i pretty much agree with your statements.
May 23, 200817 yr I think that's a tad too harsh on Norway and Iceland, they probably won't win but I can see them doing a bit better then that I agree with you on the winner though, if ani lorak puts in another performance like last night's on saturday she'll be well on her way to a win edit: Germany.....0 points? You are joking aren't you? -_- , Sure they aren't going to win it But I definitly think they'll get something at least and they won't be last place. Edited May 23, 200817 yr by Sabrewulf238
May 23, 200817 yr out of interest David, how do you think It's You by The Revelations would have done in place of Andy, assuming it was also going 2nd between Romania and Albania?
May 23, 200817 yr Author out of interest David, how do you think It's You by The Revelations would have done in place of Andy, assuming it was also going 2nd between Romania and Albania? Hmm I'd say around where Norway and Iceland are, maybe a tad higher. Would've stood out fantastically. :(

The song's alright on a CD, but when singing live it's just painful...

May 23, 200817 yr Author Well you never know, we could do alright. Andy's getting a very good reaction in the rehearsals from the crowd! :D
May 23, 200817 yr i liked their song last year and it went through the semi but bombed on th enight so it could well happen again but i hope not i dont like the croatian entry but i have a feeling its gonna do well and could go top 5,,,, greece is very over rated i think and i cant see it winning and will be lucky to go top 5
May 24, 200817 yr right ok, here are my final predictions...I really don't want Russia to win and I hope they don't but surely it's their time now... 1. Russia 2. Ukraine 3. Greece 4. Armenia 5. Serbia 6. Portugal 7. Sweden 8. Bosnia-Herzegovina 9. Turkey 10. Georgia 11. Romania 12. Azerbaijan 13. Spain 14. Denmark 15. Norway 16. Israel 17. Croatia 18. Iceland 19. Latvia 20. Finland 21. UK 22. Poland 23. Albania 24. France 25. Germany
May 24, 200817 yr So basically I'm mostly agreed with you David except I think the top two will be the other way round...I also think you've underestimated Georgia...the blind woman will pull in a lot of support with her peace anthem and eye catching performance...I've predicted 10th but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it goes higher than that :o
