look at the campaign and attiude the russian delegation had from the day he won the Russian NF :P

almost excatly the same as the Serbian delgation last year :P ;)

It's not only about politics, or voting for someone just because they're neighbours, it's also about musical tastes. In similar parts of the world tastes are similar. Take the Icelandic song, it was my second favourite of the night behind the French entry. But lookng at it, it was as camp as a row of pink tents. Now this sort of stuff just isn't popular in the East. It didn't only get 5 points from the East due to politcal, neighbourly or dispora votes, it only got five points because that kind of song isn't favoured in the East.

The Russian entrant, Dima Bilan, he's been around for a while now, he represented Russia in 2006 too. He's previously released three albums and has won awards for Best Performer, Best Song and Best Artist as well as a worldwide award for Best Selling Russian Artist. He is a HUGE name, not only in Russia but in Eastern Europe. One of his singles last year spent 8 weeks at the top of the Eastern European Airplay Chart. He's a huge success throughout Eastern Europe. Did they vote for him because he's from a neighbouring country? Well partly I'd imagine, but they also voted him because he's a recognisable artist and the song was the kind of song they like.

Mika released his album last year and it's been top 3 in Ireland, France, Belgium, Norway, Switzeland, Netherlands and "Europe" as a whole. "Relax (Take It Easy)" was top 3 in 14 countries throughout Europe. "Grace Kelly" was top 3 in 13 countries throughout Europe. If he had been our entrant and he'd entered a song similar to one of these two, you can bet the majority of these countries would recognise him, like him, and vote for him. It's the same principle as countries where Dima Bilan has had success in voting for him. But let's face it, sending someone like Mika won't ever happen. We're only ever going to send someone who's barely had any success in Britian, let alone anywhere in continental Europe.

I know that Andy isn't as good the Beatles or The Stones, I was just trying to make the point that the UK and America are the only countries to have really famous people. I do agree that we did not deserve to come first this time, but I think we should have been in the top 3. I thought Norway should have come first and Denmark second and the UK third. I'm surprised that poland didn't give as any points, especially when we have been so kind and let pretty much most of their country into ours so that they can live a decent life!!

GOOD LORD! :manson:

Now I see why so many people call the UK's taste and charts 'ignorant'!

Spot on.

If the UK wants to do well, we need to send someone whom is known in most of Europe. Mika is a good example, but otherwise we need to send the likes of Melanie C, Katie Melua, Coldplay, Radiohead, Robbie Williams, Dido, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, Morrissey, ..... etc acts who've had success all over Europe whom are well known BEFORE entering the Eurovision Contest, not some non entity whose single can't even make the nation's iTunes Top 100 before the competition.

The likes of Terry Wogan, etc need to wake up and realise why Scandinavia & Eastern Europe are doing better than Western Europe, and that is because they are sending their best known popular acts and taking the competition seriously, and not treating it as a bad joke and moaning about it when we finish in the bottom six year after year, which is exactly what the UK deserve. Yes political voting is a factor. But ultimately the best three songs on the night finished inside the Top 3 positions for a good reason.

Congratulations to the winner! I don't think this was the best choice possible, but I think Dima well deserved the award - he was obviously trying very hard. I think Never let you go was an amazing song, Believe wasn't that impressive, but still it's a nice song.

I was also very surprised to find out that we've given our twelve points to Germany :D

Whatever :)

Spot on.

Spot on, we just have to stop sending X Factor rejects and Novelty acts to represent Britain, this year we had John Barrowman to blame, he does not know what music is, unless it bit him on the ass. Simona would have been our greatest chance of getting in the top 5 this year or at least top 10, because of her international background and it was a better song than the cr@p they sent as some of the international acts this year were pretty good and better than the UK's entry.

I think its high time Terry just left on a high note, give the job to Claudia and Paddy, who have done a better job on BBC3 with the semis.

On that note I arrest my case, Same Difference next year

Why? We just need better novelty acts!

In theory there's no reason why Scooch couldn't do well if the voting was an unbiased, even playing field. Okay, the song wasn't up to much, but hey - Lordi?! The crazy Spanish entry from last night which somehow did well - Eurovision votes love a real novelty act.

Anyway I'm gutted Charlotte Perrelli didn't even get a Top 10 placing! :( At least 'Hero' got to #1 in Sweden.

In theory British Novelty acts can't get it right, Lordi was different caught everyone out by surprise, Scooch was outdated, and very camp, now who would in their right mind would vote for a Scooch track.

Britain needs to get it right, having critics like John Barrowman is not helping. They should have 4 acts singing two tracks each, and whatever track is the strongest, that track should represent Britain.

Rabbitfurcoat - are you calling me ignorant?? I have a very broad tase in music, although european stuff doesn't take my fancy. I think it is mainly cheesy and poorly written, based on what I have heard from eurovision and friends from France, Switzerland etc. I also dislike what the chart calls r and b with people sounding like recently castrated hampsters. I think r and b died many years ago!! Bring back Motown!! I like chlassics such as walking in memphis and pretty much every stones song. I would not call myself ignorant, in fact I would call myself open minded. I also think Alicia Keys as an amzing singer, having been to one of her concerts a few weeks ago. On the other hand I dislike Lionna Lewis, she is completely overrated and is manufactured, also hate manufactured bands. Although I once was a fan of the spice girls, when I was a teenager!!! Love Kylie too, as you can tell my tastes are very broad. I have recently discovered a band called Bokaata, a Cmabridge based band, they are on myspace if you want to check them out. I think that euroope has very odd tatses and think terry wogan sums up the eurovision song contest perfectly with his witty and humourous comments, he is a legend!! Although I don't think europe would understand it somehow. I think the eurovision is a joke, and I think most of the UK would agree with me!

Congrats russia ^_^ . Iceland and Sweden were robbed! They deserved much better placing. :nocheer:

Poor Poland deserved better too but what are you gonna do? -_-

Oh and I would agree the the UK entry is bad, but then I think that ALL the songs on eurovision are bad. It is mainly all about voting for the song that is the least irritating out of the lot!! And I just thought that our song was one of the least annoying! He's a nice chap too, and can at least keep a tune and dance round the stage wiggling his little ass!!

yay russa oneee

 dima

iceland sould av had wayy more points

and uk was just a disgrace :(

What a terrible winner, his song was average, he was OVERLY big headed, and he couldn't sing in tune! He only won due to being known around europe/ releasing songs there and also due to political voting, if it wasn't for political voting he wouldn't be that high up. I think western countries need to say that they are going to pull out unless something is done about the voting system... id be happy for the uk to leave and we just watch the show and pay no money... andy deserved to come last but fantastic songs such as sweden and iceland were robbed... you know where the votes are going to go before the announcers says them! It would have been so much nicer to see greece or armenia, even bloody ukraine fight off russia at the end... eurovision in russia is sooo wrong, the don't even like gays! Imo Armenia/Iceland/Greece/Sweden/Norway should have been top 5, maybe not in that order.

Wtf has that got to do with ANYTHING?!

I really hope we don't send Bosco or Podge & Rodge next year (irish puppets). Ireland has seen enough puppet action to last us a life time, it's time to send actual songs next year.

But the problem with that is no half-way famous / decent British act would want to take part in Eurovision because we as a nation look on it as a joke. I actually have respect for anyone who represents the UK in this contest (regardless of the quality of the song) its a poisoned chalice to begin with. For this I admire the balls they show in facing such public humiliation.

Each year I only half-watch the show - the only time it gets my full attention is the voting part and I know I'm not the only one who finds the voting the best bit - not because it may or may not be political - but it is fun! This was especially so last night when they cut to the guy giving the Swedish vote (was he high or something?)
