Not too good. I blame 'Britain's Got Talent' for bringing the average down though...

BBC1

20.00 - Eurovision Song Contest Final 2008 - 7.1m (34.7%)

* peak: 9.3m (49.8%) at 22.45

* Between 20.00- 21.00: 5.2m (25%)

* Between 21.00-22.00: 7.4m (34%)

* Between 22.00-23.00: 8.5m (42%)

* Between 23.00-23.15: 8.6m (50%)

ITV1

20.00 - Britain's Got Talent - 7.7m (37.2%)

Last few Eurovisions:

2008: 7.15m

2007: 8.77m

2006: 8.33m

2005: 7.97m

2004: 8.38m

2003: 7.94m

2002: 7.81m

2001: 6.98m

2000: 6.54m

1999: 8.91m

1998: 9.62m

The official rating will probably see it go up slightly, but it'll still be the worst figure since 2001. Last year's got a very high rating, presumably because of the fuss over Scooch! Andy had very little promo of any kind...

Credit to RZT at Digital Spy forums for the figures.

I thought I read reports saying last year got the biggest ratings ever? :wacko: Since 1999? :lol:

Thanks David

Yea for a decent show there should have been a lot more

i recorded BGT

Recording Eurovision you dont get the same feeling

Yes - The BBC is claiming over 9 Million ESC viewers in today's Press - at least they

say that was the highest number who watched at any one time. They do not claim

over 9 Million for the entire Contest.

The fact that the 9.3 Million Peak was reached at 10.45, shows that MANY people

just 'tune in' to watch the Voting - that the Songs are irrelevent to many people.

So, a few Million people only watch to see the Votes - meaning that they do not

see it as a 'Song Contest', really. It isn't!

It merely pretends to be a Song Contest, these days.....(Even Terry Wogan has realised

this now).

those are great ratings over all which is good

i know the semi final 1 in ireland drew over 700,000 which is great ratings for here and its excellent for rte 2 who dont usually get those kind of ratings at all,,,,it will be interesting to see the ratings for eurovision final in ireland seeoing we were not in it

700,000 is a lot, considering Ireland's population is only about four million isn't it? That's like something getting 11/12m in the UK I guess. ^_^

Six million people in Greece watched the Eurovision final, which was 93% of the audience watching TV at that time, and over 50% of the whole country's population! :o

France's ratings declining rapidly... just 3.1m watched last night, and the Eurovision came third in its slot... how long now before France pull out? Terrible figures.

In Spain, however, it was the second highest ever rated contest, only behind 2002. :o An average of 9.3m watched, with a 59% audience share. Viewing peaked when Rodolfo performed, hitting 13.8m and a 78% share of the audience.

And in Germany, 6.38m watched the contest, with a 28% share of the television audience. This is significantly down on the last two years though, when over ten million watched Texas Lightning flop, and 7.5m tuned in last year to see Roger Cicero also finish lowly.

I heard on 2FM that it was over 1 million viewers... :w00t: Which is 25% of the population. ^_^

Just found out that the 1998 contest got 9.62m, although no doubt media attention was high[er] due to Birmingham being the host city!
