hmmm..... t.i.p. has a good point, and historically we did best in the 60's 70's when we used established acts (cliff, lulu, sandie..)

but.... we won with bucks fizz, and with a song that wasnt THAT good.... they were 'unknowns'.

But perhaps by the times Cliff entered the contest he wasnt the sexy be-quiffed British Elvis with a load of great Brit-pop ( ) Rock-N-Roll tunes - and instead a commited Christian in some kinda cheesy Light Entertainment TV Hell??? (maybe the same with Lulu and Sandie - i guess it was pre-Take That, pre-Dome Records, pre-Moz and Lloyd 'Jimmy Carr-a-like' Cole)

and I wonder what does Cheryl Baker of 1970s Eurovision types CoCo think about ESC in the 60s and 70s....

i think the way foreward would be to split europe into similar regions and have say 3? 4? 5? entries from countries in each region.

On the other hand I think Austria may have had a good point with chucking all the failed countries out from scoring...

Benny & Bjorn, from ABBA, regard the ESC as a load of garbage now, & would never write a Song for it

tho Dieter Bohlen would if he hasnt done already

and maybe we could have Ross Antony or Right Said Fred singing it - and if we're really really stuck David Van Day could be the man

Frankly, many of my favourite Rock or Pop Stars of all time are people with little or no technical ability (such as Sabbath-era Ozzy, Johnny Rotten, Jim Morrison and Ian Curtis) , but hey, they all had an unbelievable presence and attitude about them which just sets them apart,

but isnt this also kinda the reasoning why punk was such a big thing in 1977..against all the prog-rockers who had the technical ability

zeus555, I don't really think Ukraine or Russia's songs this actually sounded like the were from those countries. Believe could have been entered for the Uk and I wouldn't have noticed.

Yeah true, totally true - just have to see Jonathan Dimbelby's Russia programme the other week from Dagestan to know this is true

The UK NEEDS the European Union, & I am glad we are in it. We actually do

NOT need The ESC - no more than we need 'Miss World' - and that has long gone

from the BBC & ITV.

tho Miss World may be a less pointless contest compared to ESC - tho in these post-ladette/Loaded days of Nuts and Zoo - perhaps doing a lot for charitee and not getting just your boobs out is a bit old fashioned

The Daily Express is read by the sort of people who will listen to anything Wogan throws at them though, without thinking anything through.

In a nutshell.... The Express is the most jingoistic, xenophobic, "Little Englander" rag out there, not fit for wrapping chips or wiping your arse with tbh.... Not sure about it making The Sun look respectable, but I wont argue about your main points....

The way I see it is that people who buy and read The Sun know they're only getting a cheap read written so ten year olds can understand, but with the Express... well its readers genuinly believe they're getting a decent paper. :manson:

Actually, yeah, you have valid point there.... The Express IS worse than The Sun.... At least The Sun doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is.....
