Shirley Manson definitely won't be playing a "stupid girl" in a hit new series this fall. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Garbage" frontwoman Shirley Manson has been cast in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

She will become a series regular, portraying Catherine Weaver, the CEO of a state-of-the-art technology corporation. This is the first major acting role for Manson, whose band "Garbage" burst on the scene in 1995 with their self-titled album that went double platinum with the help of the popular singles, "Only Happy When It Rains" and "Stupid Girl."

No production schedule for Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles has been released, but they are still slated for their second season debut this fall. The show debuted in midseason and was the highest-rated new scripted series of the whole season.

Shirley Manson terrified by acting debut

Jul 6 2008 Edited By Billy Sloan And Mickey Mcmonagle

FORMER Garbage singer Shirley Manson says her acting debut was more nerve-wracking than performing for a big crowd.

The 41-year-old stars in a US telly spin-off of the sci-fi Terminator films as a baddie whose company makes robots taking over the world.

Manson, who grew up in Edinburgh, said: "I was a little nervous first day on set - I've performed in front of thousands but this time the attention was on me alone.

"I've been a musician for 20 years and it was very different appearing just as Shirley Manson, with nothing to hide behind."
