Posted May 30, 200817 yr Football's governing body Fifa has endorsed president Sepp Blatter's 'six-plus-five' principle, which would limit a team's foreign players in the starting line up to five. What is your opinion on this? Are foreign footballers ruining the English game, or are Foreigners signed because they are better footballers than English players at our disposal?
May 30, 200817 yr Well of the 160 countries that voted 155 said yes, so it's obviously an idea that would get put through if possible. Unfortunately they probably won';t have a leg to stand on against EU laws. Although why I dont know as it's perfectly allowable for UEFA to make it so a certain amount of players registered for European Competition have to be from the country they're playing in! :manson:
May 30, 200817 yr Yeah it'll never get through EU laws. It's a good idea in principle but it'll never work. I'd love to see lots of English players playing but that fact is they're not good enough, or else they'd be playing at all the top clubs. The attraction to the Premier League is that they have lots of good players playing, I like watching lots of foreign international players playing and i'm sure lots of other football fans do. I know Blatter etc. say they're doing this so that the top leagues don't become a 3 horse race or whatever, but the likes on Liverpool, Man Utd, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Juventus, AC Milan etc. they've always been part of the top clubs in the world, and even if this rule is approved they still will be.
May 30, 200817 yr I can possibly see this being revised to limit non EU players to maybe 2 or 3 per club, but no limit on EU players.
