Here are some of my favourite songs from the 80's, and the one thing they all have in common is they are all from Liverpool.

1) Echo & Bunnymen - The Cutter....................Moody and atmospheric, a great song for me

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7xWAKmHRZw

2)Mighty Wah - The Story of the blues................verging on cheesy, I still think it sounded good in the early 80's

3) Teardrop Explodes - Treason ( It's just a story).................Julian Cope on vocals, was a toss up between this and Reward

4) Lightning Seeds - Pure............Most of their sucess was in the 90's but this just squeezes into 80's,anyway Ian Broudie produced lots of stuff in 80's

5) OMD - Enola Gay................always loved this track

6) A flock of seagulls - Wishing (If I had a photograph of you).......Very underated band with some good songs, love the intro to the song

7) Black - Wonderful Life.................Great ballad, one of my favourites from then

8) China Crisis - Wishful Thinking......Another great band with a great sound

9) Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Two Tribes..................always preferred this one to Relax, remember sitting up waiting for the video premiere on The Tube

10) Icicle Works - Love is a wonderful colour.....great song, what more can I say

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKuTS5lojLc

11) Its Immaterial - Driving away from home(Jim's Tune)......Simply one of the best songs ever

12) The La's - There she goes................Excellent track from this band

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBZ4j0Rz-F0

Kept the best to last, special bonus track

13) Lotus Eaters - The first picture of you........what can I say about this song, masterpiece of a pop song, how it never got to number one I will never know

an excellant album there bri..... the ONLY change id make would be the omission of 'story of the blues' for wylies better track as 'wah heat'.... 'better scream', its an utterly FANTASTIC track and i recomend it to all. (wasnt on youtube last time i looked)

Brian,

That is a near definitive list.

However I always thought Colin Vearcombe (Black) was from Wales, but I've checked and found out I was completely wrong.

Still instead of pointlessly trying to pick holes in your brilliant list, I will instead post the worst song from Liverpool (or arguably the world!) from the 1980s:

Liverpool FC - Anfield Rap (1988 UK#3)
