I cant really get my head around Darius doing a cockney accent, although I adored Oliver Reed's Sykes..and can't take to anyone elses.

I know my sister loves Blood Brothers and mentioned him being in that, but when she said it was Liverpudlian, again I just couldnt get my head around that either.

Tortoise and Hare. He shouldn't rush into something that won't let him showcase his skill.

Darius is way better than that role. I don't think Bill Sykes is meant to cut an impressive figure on stage. Darius can't just tuck his remarkable charisma into his pocket when he doesn't need it for the character.

If Oliver was on Broadway, I might say give it a go just to get the toe in the door.

quote But what would stretch him? Apart from Phantom and Les Mis, I can't think of anythink else.

I agree. I think something on tv would have done more. I didnt like the bit they showed of GWTW as an exert when he did an interview. It wasnt that I didnt like it in the show I just felt out of context it came across a bit operatic and could have put some people off. Mind you when I see the way that show Britains got talent ias revered in the papers today I depair of the british public. To all those people on the theatre sites who slated it I hope they enjoy most of the dross that is out there now, giving ALW and SC a virtual free hand. The going of GTW I hope will put off a lot of new productions appearing and they can enjoy repeats repeats repeats.l Youy will gather from this that I completely disagree with what the critics said which was well publicised yet things that do need publicising dont get it.

well my attitude has always been the people get what they deserve -

I used to go along with the idea that TV, media, theatre was being dummed down too much, and soon GBP would tire of the endless voting programs and Big Brothers, and realise that like sheep they are groomed and led to make people rich for little more than the heavy sell of rubbish in return - but these days I fear it is because people are actually on the whole - Dum.

7 million years of evolution is on the whole wasted TBH

I really am feeling bitter today about all this.

and yes, I agree with Preston, I thought the clip used every time didnt reflect the show and made it look very heavy and operatic.

Darius has proved he can study, adapt and sustain American accents. I don't see any reason why he couldn't do the same with British ones.

The thing about theatre is, that no matter how successful people are and however long the show runs, they don't get much publicity other than casting announcements, first night and changes in the cast and aren't taken notice of outside the "theatre world" unless they do a bit of TV or land a part in a movie blockbuster.

Who outwith the narrow "theatre world" could name any of the Valjeans or Javerts from les Mis or the current phantom?

Who could have said what roles John Barrowman played before Captain Jack in Doctor Who? Helen Mirren trod the boards for years before recognition through Prime Suspect.

Luck also plays a major part.

e.g. Orlando Bloom got his role in the lucrative Lord of the Rings straight from drama school and then the another triple movie role in Pirates....

I also hope the film role comes along. My thoughts are if orlando bloom can be notice, D surely should be. Also think Bill sykes is a step down, not a large role. Also these producers like ALW have their favourites. I had to laugh at Carole malone writing in the news of the world re denise van outen, nailed it exactly - quote Denise van outen says the gargoyle who is andrew lloyd webber is a great mover on the dance floor nd more rock and roll than any of us. which isnt so much a compliment more an extravagant piece of sucking up by a jobbing singer who wants to keep herself firmly in the good books of one of the richest, most influential men in music.
I sat and watched the whole of the GWTW film this afternoon, wishing I was watching Darius instead of Clark Gable and wanting to throttle Scarlet.

You know Darius. It'll be his normal 'Well worse things happen. it'll be Ok. Don't worry' and he'll put his working life in line and enjoy his family. And they'll make sure he's OK.

I still think it's so totally unfair when he's done nothing to deserve this kind of thing.

Yes, that's exactly how he'll be. It is unfair but it isn't a reflection on him or the rest of the cast.
He's put up with so much rubbish that he just shoulders back and gets on with it. Makes you want to hug him.

Fortunately Darius has a way of dealing with it and channelling all his emotions - songwriting.

They say you need a bit of heartbreak to write good songs so maybe there will be a silver lining after all.

Let's hope the negative can be turned into a positive but wish it wasn't this way.
