What must the cast have thought on Saturday when the fire broke out in the balcony and the show had to end?

They must still have been reeling from the sudden closure announcement.

At least you live near enough to have seen the show many times. You will have much stronger memories

than most of us.

I know. I should feel guilty but I'm just thankful that I've had the opportunity. I'm so glad i didn't keep putting it off.

Gone with The Wind set to close May 31, 2008

Posted by admin in : Gone With the Wind, New London Theatre, dates , trackback

Alas the rumours are true and Gone with The Wind starring Darius Danesh and Jill Paice is set to close after June 14th, in just two weeks time. The bad news was supposedly broken to a devastated cast after Friday night’s evening performance at the New London Theatre.

Digitalspy has the scoop along with Playbill and Broadwayworld :

Showbiz - News - Darius Danesh’s West End run cut short - Digital Spy

Following low ticket sales and a poor response from critics, the production will now complete its run on June 15. Patrons who hold tickets for cancelled performances have been told that they will receive a refund.

“From the beginning of our journey we have all worked hard to achieve the realisation of putting Margaret Mitchell’s classic novel, Gone with the Wind, on stage at the New London Theatre,” producer Aldo Scrofani explained in a statement. “Despite the critical response the Company have enjoyed much praise from audience members during our run and for that we are grateful, nevertheless we have made the difficult decision to close the production.

“Plans for a New York production are currently on hold but in the meantime we are pursuing various options that have been presented to us from interested parties worldwide.”

This is a great shame, because by all accounts the show was starting to shape up and given time may have developed into a long running classic musical. London Theatre Breaks commiserates with all involved.

they absolutely right - if it had time, it would be a long lived great production

You should not feel guilty, megham.

When Darius was in Edinburgh I went through as often as I could.

He's not over here that often and I'm determined that when ever he is, I'll make every effort to see him as often as I can.

I've been kicking myself for staying around as family dogsbody and chauffeuse instead of going to the GWTW previews and first night.

its only by chance I got tickets fo rthe 7th, hubby said leave it till later in June!!

but saw front row and had to get them as later dates were offering worse seats.

I am really disappointed in this, although other shows are lcosing - I think the credit crunch has impacted on the WE

I must stop reading these closure articles. They are too depressing or else like the Daily Record just make me want to hit someone.

I found a blog where the guy started by practically accusing Darius of lying.

He said something like he'd seen Darius on TV boasting about how they were getting standing ovations and isn't it funny then that GWTW was closing.

He admitted he doesn't like Darius mind you. He finished by asking if Darius Danesh is really leading man material or did they just hire him for his name. There's no doubt what the answer he was trying to suggest was.

bleep! bleep! bleep! bleep! bleep!

I've sent a comment to him and one else where

I really wish they had pushed publicity and held out till September.

If money was a problem at the start.....why start!!

Why didn't they wait :(

I find this so depressing....how the cast feel...

Not much good knowing how good he show is if no one gets to see it because it has closed.

I wonder if tickets have been selling faster since the news broke.

Gone Wth The Wind's closing and Kelly Osbourne got a best actress award for her Mama Morton.

Doesn't that just sum up the current WE?

I have no idea how she could. You used to get praised if you had talent and derided if you didn't - it seems to have been reversed sometimes.
That is depressing. No way is Kelly Osborne the best actress in the West End and she wasn't my idea of Mama Morton
