very low sales in my opinion, too low. Don't forget his first single sold 1.100.000 and Westlife's first album sold over 1.650,000

There is a diffrent between singles and albums you know!

God that's really low considering how well That's My Goal did, yikes.
that means people were disappointed from that's my goal.

How were people disappointed in TMG when it sold over 1m?

He's doing the average I guess.

TMG only sold so well because of all the hype because he won the show.

'No Promises' is far superior - one of the best ballads by a male singer in a long time imo - the album is a bit boring but Id rather listen to it than a Westlife record anyday.

This is a bad choice for the 3rd single anyway but at leats he's releasing a 3rd single success or not.

I agree with all of it. :D

I ended up really loving 'No Promises' in the end surprsingly, 'That's My Goal' sickens me to the pit of my stomach now though.

Maybe he'll establish an identity for himself with the next album, and it won't all be Westlife rejects and such like. He has the potential with the voice he has.

Look at Will Young, his first album sold 500k roughly didn't it? Yet on Fridays Child he really found his artistic feet and look at the result. :cheer:

Will sold nearly 850K of his first album. :D
Will's 1st album did over 800k but not sure over what time period. The difference with the second album was that he was allowed to go and develop his own sound. But Shayne has Louis Walsh as a manager and I'm pretty sure he won't allow Shayne that amount of freedom ;) Depends on how much Shayne digs his heels in I guess.

This is taken from Simons autobiography and describes just how he works with his artists.

Simon had been watching Mamma Mia with his girlfriend and heard 'I Have a Dream', He turned to her and said "That's it, that's the Xmas no.1". He then phoned Louis Walsh and told him they were going to record it and then asked Pete Waterman to produce it.

The very last people to be told were Westlife, who actually recorded the song.

So that's how Simon & Louis work. Shayne's apparently not a songwriter, so the material he does will be chosen by them, the producer booked and probably Shayne will find out what he's singing, the day he goes into the studio to record it.

If Shayne doesn't tow the line, he'll be out, Simon will lose interest like he did with Gareth. There's another XFactor coming up and there'll be another Gareth or Shayne in there just waiting to take their place.

I hope Shayne does get more input with his next album. He's got a very good voice and it would be a shame if it was all wasted. Hope he manages to cut the ties, just as Gareth has done.

Oh and don't worry about Gareth. He's very happy with the way things are progressing for him and he has PERSONALLY  assured us he has finally finished recording and is out of the studio and has lots of new projects in the pipeline which we will hear about when the time is right. We are also assured that time is not too far off.

Very much looking forward to what these surprises are

Yes, I read the message on his site too Val ;)

I'm not particularly worried about Gareth, I merely used his name to illustrate Simon's attitude to his artists.

All Simon cares about is hitting that no.1 spot and he has all the tools necessary to do it, except that he just needs a voice to hire to make it happen. A young, good looking voice for hire, to sing the songs he's got from his Swedish music factory and make lots of money for his label. Who it is, doesn't really matter, they're just a means to an end for Simon.

Westlife are 8 years on with 8 albums and they got bored and dropped from their first few albums, with shayne ward getting bored from it's first. I doubt his new single will enter the top 5.

Yes you're probably right Marguerite. In fact I'm sure you are.

I just sometimes wish Gareth had been the age Will was, and with the same experience of life, at the time of PI. He was very young and all he wanted to do was sing. His mentors certainly didn't deal adequately with the unfortunate problems he had to contend with.

Thank goodness he's overcome those problems now and is influencing his own future.

As long as Gareth is happy in his private life and is able to use his many talents in the way he wishes to do, then I shall be happy for him, even if that means never having another No1.

Plus, when I hear him performing his new music, I shall be happy for myself :D

Louis Walsh in the radio times

"Although I won in the end and Shayne Ward is going fantastically. I think he's going to be the biggest of all the UK acts.

Bigger than Will Young?

Yeah! He's going into arenas whereas Will didn't go straight into them. I think Will is great but this guy has more appeal. I had G4 from last year's x factor and I had Girl's Aloud from the other show but I think Shayne is going to be the most successful."

Discuss :P

Although I'm fed up with LW constantly referring to Shayne going to be bigger than Will, I'm equally annoyed that Will gets compared with GA and G4 aswell. He has sold tons more albums than either act - yet these comparisons are never really questioned <_<

All of these people who interview Walsh, be it on radio/tv or in magazines/press are probably totally unaware of any of these artists sales. All of them are household names all of them are in the music business and that's as far as their knowledge of them goes :D

Walsh is well aware of this fact and uses other peoples lack of knowledge to, in effect , lie about his artists successes. I think even if he was challenged, he'd still lie through his teeth and bluff it out ;)

Shayne has a long way to go yet before his success can be measured against Wills, the only person seemingly oblivious to the fact, is the pratt who is Louis Walsh
