June 2, 200817 yr Author Oh yeah that's what I meant haha. Isn't an accordian one of those really big things?!
June 2, 200817 yr 31. Zeljko Joksimovic - Lane Moje Country: Serbia & Montenegro Year: 2004 Total points: 263 Final placing: 2nd out of 24 4lroN21ofmE I think this is the best Serbia has ever offered us. Better than 'Molitva' I feel, and definately better than that Bosnian dirge that appeared a few years later in 'Leilja'. There's your answer Pavel. :P It would've been nice had this song won, but I think Ruslana was probably a bit more memorable. This song's performance in the semi-final though I think shows that running order perhaps does matter... it was on near the end of the semi and came above the Ukrainians. :o Odds weren't that low though at 12/1, but it was all about Sakis and Ruslana in the bookmakers' eyes in 2004. It's all very well until he starts to sing :smoke: And is that the dude that co-hosted this years contest?
June 2, 200817 yr Author It's all very well until he starts to sing :smoke: And is that the dude that co-hosted this years contest? Yeah that's him! The one that wore the hideous trainers in the first semi final. :arrr:
June 2, 200817 yr Yeah that's him! The one that wore the hideous trainers in the first semi final. :arrr: Gah, I noticed those! They were like f***in' moon boots!
June 3, 200817 yr Author 30. Sanomi - Urban Trad Country: Belgium Year: 2003 Total points: 165 Final placing: 2nd out of 26 MUWqjsY8d0U This was the last time that I was truly gripped by the Eurovision. The final votes from Slovenia were painfully nervewracking! Belgium were five points ahead of Turkey, but after receiving just three points from the Slovenians, it meant that Turkey overtook them! At the time, I did want Turkey to win, but in hindsight, this would have been a better winner - just so that people couldn't ramble on about having an eastern winner all century! This was a big outsider at 33/1, and I'd never really understood the appeal before the contest. Deserving of its second place though, but Belgium have done very little since...
June 3, 200817 yr Author 29. Danijela - Neka Mi Ne Svane Country: Croatia Year: 1998 Total points: 131 Final placing: 5th out of 25 AFNSqv_-eUA Very nice song, this is, and had it had a better draw than being on first in Birmingham, I think this could've been a serious challenge to Israel, Malta and the United Kingdom. It was actually leading at one point, around the 90-point mark I think but it tailed off towards the end. :( This is Croatia's highest entry in my chart, and definately their best entry ever I think. ^_^
June 3, 200817 yr Author 28. Mrs Einstein - Niemand Heeft Nog Tijd Country: Netherlands Year: 1997 Total points: 5 Final placing: 22nd out of 25 HiM_SkspHII This song did unfairly bad! It's such a funny, stereotypical Eurovision song. Dubbed an old version of the Spice Girls, Mrs Einstein had appeared on some UK show beforehand I seem to remember, but received nothing from the British public in the end! The Netherlands bounced back the following year with a fourth placed finish, but I much prefer this. Wogan's comment at the end of the song is hilarious too, something about "five old wallopers"!
June 3, 200817 yr Author 27. Kate Ryan - Je T'adore Country: Belgium Year: 2006 Total points: 69 Semi final placing: 12th out of 23 iUFh6Khi8zc It was a real shame that this failed to qualify, as it's a very good song. In fact it is one of the greatest ESC injustices in recent years, and the Belgians certainly weren't impressed! The vocals are slightly ropey though, and a poorish performing position probably contributed to it doing poorly. That said, they were only seven points away from the Macedonian entry, which finished in tenth and securing a final position, so they only missed out by a whisker. :( And that is also where the bloc voting does have an effect on countries...
June 3, 200817 yr Author 26. Chiara - The One That I Love Country: Malta Year: 1998 Total points: 165 Final placing: 3rd out of 25 SrZW-Q2CLGw And so to Malta, and Chiara. Bless her, you can really see the disappointment in her face when the Macedonian jury revealed they'd given their 12 to Croatia. :( Coming so close like this must be awful, although I think Scott Fitzgerald in 1988 was worse, but then also to be knocked into third position adds insult to injury! She bounced back again in 2005 and went one better into the second place, with a pretty average song I thought, and who knows if/when she comes back again, she could go one better than that!

Deserving of its second place though, but Belgium have done very little since... don't mind this but it was an absolute crime that Kate Ryan's Je T'adore didn't make the final...forget Eurovision, that song was one of THE best pop songs of 2006...Belgium do try their hardest, just like Switzerland but why do they insist on picking singers who can't nail it live :(

June 3, 200817 yr 26. Chiara - The One That I Love Country: Malta Year: 1998 Total points: 165 Final placing: 3rd out of 25 SrZW-Q2CLGw And so to Malta, and Chiara. June 3, 200817 yr Author 25. NOX - Forogj Vilag Country: Hungary Year: 2005 Total points: 97 Final placing: 12th out of 24 kkPewaR5Crc This is a decent song, but the performance on the night was nothing special tbh. And that coupled with the fact that they had to perform first meant doomsville for the Hungarians. The studio version is very catchy though, and this was unsurprisingly very well thought of. There's another Hungarian song not too far away in my chart, and I hope they come up with something as decent as this and the other one in question again next year. ^_^
June 3, 200817 yr Author 24. Dima Bilan - Believe Country: Russia Year: 2008 Total points: 272 Final placing: 1st out of 25 ZB2Ddqag8Wc Ahhh. That's all that needs to be said tbh. But I shall continue. Russia went all out this year, and it certainly paid off - how many other countries have come up with the idea of having someone skating around the main star(s)?! Fantastic performance, and the way he says "begeeens" at the start is so fit. :(
June 3, 200817 yr Author 23. Ani Lorak - Shady Lady Country: Ukraine Year: 2008 Total points: 230 Final placing: 2nd out of 25 qHaoKFfvuxo Anthemic song, and on the night I would've preferred this to win to Russia. As it is, I'm quite happy now with the winner, as it means we'll be seeing a lot more of Dima. :w00t: Not that seeing more of Ani or Kalmoira would've been a bad thing like... It would've been interesting had this been in the running along with Russia and Greece, but it sort of snuck up at the end and snatched away second spot! Good song though, and a deserving finish.
June 3, 200817 yr Author 22. Magdi Ruzsa - Unsubstantial Blues Country: Hungary Year: 2007 Total points: 128 Final placing: 9th out of 24 GAhouvVeqcg Perhaps the award for the best song of 2007 should actually go to Hungary, certainly the strongest voice anyway. Magdi certainly nailed some of those notes... even if her voice did sound like it was going to give at any moment! This was a welcome change in the 2007 contest, and something completely different which probably contributed to it doing so well in the end! That bus stop sign was well weird though.
June 3, 200817 yr Believe is so f***ing overrated :( It's good, but not great. Ani on the other hand :kink:
June 3, 200817 yr How come Unsubstantial Blues is suddenly your favourite of 2007? I don't recall it doing much in your chart, and I would've thought Molitva would've beaten it hands down tbh, especially in terms of voice :(
June 3, 200817 yr Author 21. Maria Haukaas Storeng - Hold On, Be Strong Country: Norway Year: 2008 Total points: 182 Final position: 5th out of 25 Il4pdJMSPgc To me, this song's success is proof that a western country can do well if they really try. Totally deserved to get this high, and it's my second highest 2008 song in this chart. Maria performed this very well in the final, and she had a great position to sing from, even if she had just followed Dima Bilan! Let's hope we get a song as decent as this in next year's contest, and another that can pick up decent points from nearly every voting country!
