Posted June 2, 200817 yr 1. The Ronettes [/b]- Be My Baby 2. The Shangra-las - Remember (Walking In The Sand) Superb!!! 3. The Supremes - Where Did Our Love Go? They may have hated it, but I still think it's their best 4. Sister Sledge - He's The Greatest Dancer Gotta love Chic 5. Bananarama - Cruel Summer Great pop tune! 6. Go-Go's - Our Lips Are Sealed I may be in a minority, but I prefer this to Fun Boy Three's version 7. Bangles - Manic Monday One of Prince's best songs 8. Mel & Kim - Respectable Cheesy maybe, but still a top tune! 9. Belle Stars - Sign Of The Times Classic! 10. B*Witched - Blame It On The Weatherman Their one great pop song 11. Precious - Say It Again Failures at Eurovision - should have done better 12. Atomic Kitten - Whole Again :D
June 2, 200817 yr 1. Bananarama - Long Train Running Produced by ex-Killing Joke man Youth, Bananarama's Pop Life album was the album to get them on the front of the NME.... it spawned this Doobie Brothers classic alongwith Only Your Love, Preacher Man and Tripping On Your Love. This is a cover- but one of the finest ever cover versions - plus, it shows you where Girls Aloud stole all their ideas for their Can't Speak French video - spot the difference? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lR3a15kACj0...feature=related 2. Martha Reeves and the Vandellas - Heatwave Sister Act resurrected this single, the best, IMO, of all the Martha Reeves singles. Total classic. 3. Strawberry Switchblade - Since Yesterday Scottish twosome Strawberry Switchblade looked as strange as they sounded, but their own brand of twee, summery, day-glo pop struck a chord with the public - very briefly. This was their biggest hit. 4. Client - Rock'n'Roll Machine Criminally underrated in their homeland, ex-Dubstar singer Sarah and her band Client have only had one top 30 hit here - bizarre, eh? Their brand of catchy-as-scabies electropop has spawned a clutch of songs Kylie would kill her gay stylist for... yet Joe British Public remain blissfully ignorant. This is a classic single - a flop, of course... 5. Frank Chickens - Fujiyama Mama Bizarre? Most definitely... but Fujiyama Mama is a fun single from the mid 80s. Love it. 6. Fuzzbox - Self When the girls glammed up and ditched the 'We've Got a Fuzzbox and We're Gonna Use It' moniker, they started selling quite afew singles.... for a short period. Self was probably the best of them. Brilliant stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4b3aHuPE7fA 7. Go-Gos - Our Lips Are Sealed Despite Fun Boy Three doing the unthinkable and p***ing all over this, the original, the Go-Gos version of Our Lips Are Sealed is still definitely worthy of a mention here. Top stuff. 8. Shakespears Sister - Heroine A track from the girls' excellent debut Sacred Heart, this one's a corker. This would be Siobhan Fahey's second appearance in my girlgroup album - but by the time Bananarama released Preacher Man, she was living in LA as Mrs Dave Stewart and part of this band. and as a little Brucie bonus... their last ever performance together, a live version of Stay at the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party.... plus! One of the best pop videos ever? I think so... Goodbye Cruel World..... awesome... 9. Diana Ross and the Supremes - Someday We'll Be Together Classic pop from Ms Ross and her Supremes - nothing more to say, really, this one's a classic. 10 Three Degrees - When Will I See You Again? They may be looked on in history as a perfect addition to a 70s Saturday Spectacular variety line-up, but you can't take away the fact that Prince Charles's favourites Three Degrees released some pretty brilliant singles. This was probably the best of them..... great harmonies. 11. En Vogue - My Lovin Destinys Child and TLC may have shifted more units, but my prize for America's sexiest, sassiest and best recent girlgroup without doubt goes to En Vogue. This trackis nothing short of incredible. 12. Sugababes - I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor Despite not making a decent single since Amelie has joined them, this was one of her first vocal appearances on a Sugababes track. Weirdly only a b-side but this is one of their finest ever moments - their cover of the Arctic Monkeys' number one. Rocking, rollicking and with tongues firmly planted in cheeks, it's a real shame the magic touch seems to have long gone for the 'babes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbsAn4ZHVKA

June 4, 200817 yr 1 - Spice Girls - Stop - You can't do a girl group album without The Spice Girls on it lol and i think this is by far their best. 2 - The Bangles - Manic Monday - This is the one i like the most from them, Eternal Flame is a great pop song but i prefer Atomic Kittens Cover -_- 3 - Atomic Kitten - The Last Goodbye - Huge fan of the Kittens and huge fan of this song ^_^ 4 - Girls Aloud - Something Kinda Ooooh - IMO probably their best yet, and like the Spice Girls you cant have a girl group album and not have Girls Aloud on there. 5 - Solid Harmonie - I'll Be There For You - You May or May NOT remember this Group but I was a fan of these back in the day :drama: - 6 - TLC - Unpretty - I think I prefer this song more than 'Waterfalls' 7 - The Pussycat Dolls - Don't Cha - The song that kickstarted their career to stardom, only fair it was included 8 - Destiny's Child - Lose My Breath - Love this song and it was one of very few DC songs i actually like :o 9 - Eternal - Angel Of Mine - Song brings so many memories  10 - Honeyz - Finally Found - One of the defining songs for Girl Groups in the 90's. 11 - All Saints - Pure Shores - Arguably one of the best Girl Group songs EVER. 12 - Sugababes - Push The Button - Definately one of their best and a great pop song all round. ^_^

June 4, 200817 yr ok... mines very similar to ah golds... ill keep the first three! 1 The Ronettes - Be My Baby 2. The Shangra-las - Remember (Walking In The Sand) good but rather depressing... 3. The Supremes - Where Did Our Love Go? i think it was their best, still sounds good. 4 Go-Go's - Our Lips Are Sealed indeed a great track 5. Bangles - walk like an egyptian a good girl group, decent pop. 6 Mel & Kim - showing out ok, every now and again some manufacterer can get it right! lol.. this was one time imho. 7. Belle Stars - Sign Of The Times ill pinch this of ah's list too :) 8. B*Witched - too you i belong ... he he... guilty pleasure, its carp but good carp! 9 Paper dolls - something here in my heart (keeps a telling me no). goodtime pop. 10 Bananarama - shy boy one of their better attempts imho. 11 Martha reeves and the vandellas - nowhere to run (no where to hide) had this in my motown album, i simply love this track! 12 Strawberry switchblade - since yesterday simply a class girly pop song.
June 4, 200817 yr the only problem with this list is that many arnt 'retro'.... pre y2k please :) the main problem with the list is that it fails to include a single song by the best girlband ever - Bananarama
June 4, 200817 yr 3. Totally with you on those two... Strawberry Switchblade are probably responsible in some weird, unconscious way for spawning that whole "Gothic Lolita" thing that's big in Japan at the moment.... Client are TOTALLY under-rated... I've seen them play live so many times in London at various things, supporting acts like Covenant, and they just SO DESERVE better than that......
June 4, 200817 yr Girl groups! Ah yes! 01 : TLC "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" Their debut track, I think? I was far too young at the time to fully appreciate the impact these girls were to have!.. 02 : En Vogue "Hold On" I was beaten to 'My Lovin', so I'll opt for this slick bit of New Jack swing! Just check that acapella intro! 03 : SWV "Right Here" Pure summer! 04 : Mel And Kim "Respectable" Naturally... 05 : Bananarama "I Want You Back" If the Supremes were British and produced by Stock/Aitken/Waterman... 06 : Eternal "Stay" Still sounds rather cool, some 15 years later... 07 : Shakespears Sister "Your History" Cool as the nines! Great, if shortlived female duo. 08 : Sister Sledge "Lost In Music" Anything produced by Chic is generally ace, really... 09 : Sugababaes "Overload" Pushing it with the retro theme here, but what a wicked track! 10 : Salt N Pepa "You Showed Me" Not 'Push It' of 'Lets Talk About Sex', but this belter! 11 : Reynard Sisters "I'd Rather Jack" As a bonus track...!!!
June 4, 200817 yr ! 11 : Reynard Sisters "I'd Rather Jack" As a bonus track...!!! NOOOOOOO ...lol. that was AWFUL! anyway its 'reynolds sisters'... :P
June 4, 200817 yr NOOOOOOO ...lol. that was AWFUL! anyway its 'reynolds sisters'... :P I was just joking! But it is funny though... ^_^
