It had been an evening of great contrasts, with amazing songs such as Greece's, Sweden's and France's in complete parallel to the British, Russian and Estonian entries. Then, just as everybody was about to get up and make a cup of tea...this came on. The harmonica intro just makes this track all the more magical, and it's criminal that it was robbed! :( For a good while it looked indeed like we would be staying in Copenhagen for 2002...

Predictions for the top 40? :drama:

It was joint third, not third :smoke: I'm all for tied places when it comes to this if only because Runaway and Come Back are both about as good as each other :heehee: This was very uplifting and happy pop, with a frankly amazing performance :cheer: This surprised nobody by coming top 3, although it would've been far preferable had this been third, and...no, I can't say much more without giving too much away :heehee:

39: Serbia 2008 - Jelena Tomasevic - Oro // 6th; 160 points

 

 

Well, after that performance I wouldn't have really cared if we'd stayed in Belgrade for 2009 :heehee: At least the hotels would've been cheaper :smoke: Quite frankly, this song, coming straight after Spain's 3 minute disaster, is nothing but a faith restorer. Yes, who said Eurovision has no integrity?

38: Armenia 2008 - Sirusho - Qele Qele // 4th; 199 points

 

 

Oh, if only this hadn't been drawn 5th, had a much better performance, didn't get screechy in places, got 80 more points...I could go on :( Could've very easily been this year's winner had Russia and Armenia switched performing positions :smoke:

I quite liked Sahlene, and she certainly was joint third and not just third. :D 'Oro' was also an excellent song.

I might do something like this, It'll have to be a top 20 since I don't think I could remember 50 songs (50 amazing songs anyway) :P

 

I think Qele Qele is way too over-rated. I don't mean on this chart but in general.

37: Albania 2004 - Anjeza Shahini - The Image of You // 7th; 106 points

 

 

On Albania's debut, Anjeza totted her way onstage, and the song started off as a tinkly, cute little number with Anjeza looking like a little girl lost. Then, the disco beats kicked in and Anjeza took control of the stage, looking suddenly very mature for her age to give us a memorable number which is easily the best thing Albania have sent!

36: Switzerland 2005 - Vanilla Ninja - Cool Vibes // 8th; 128 points

 

 

Please tell me I wasn't the only one that thought this could win after that performance? :o This fantastic dark number can be interpreted as nothing other than the Serebro prequel, so recently I've taken to calling it Song #0 :heehee: This could easily have won had Estonia sent it I feel...

35: Greece 2006 - Anna Vissi - Everything // 9th; 128 points

 

 

In the hyped up pre-contest battle between Anna Vissi and Carola, I really did fear this would do better than Carola despite my love of both songs. Luckily, Anna Vissi came out in a dress worthy of a Barbara Dex and gave a performance worthy of a Gracia Baur, and thankfully lost the battle. Studio version is amaze though :heart:

34: Sweden 1991 - Carola - Fangad Av En Stormvind (Caught Up In A Stormwind) // 1st; 146 points

 

 

Notable for two reasons: Carola is one of two artists to appear twice on this list (f*** you Dima, you aren't the other :smoke::heehee:) and also this is the first - although by no means the last! - Swedish entry on the list! :funky: Notable in the thing itself for being the only modern winner that had to go to a tie-break - not that it deserved it though :smoke: The performance though only goes to show just how...perky Carola was back in t'day! :heehee:

33: Greece 2008 - Kalomoira - Secret Combination // 3rd; 218 points

 

 

Well, who says that Eurovision doesn't offer anything credible? :smoke: Possibly the greatest summer anthem that never charted in the UK, and it could do big things in America what with it ripping off Give It To Me and all :smoke: Oh yeah, and the final performance was amaze as well :heart:

I noticed how people reacted when Anna Vissi came on the stage, i was like :o But no chances for winning :(

32: Moldova 2007 - Natalia Barbu - Fight // 10th; 109 points

 

 

Check out that outfit :kink: This was the definition of an amazing closer (well, maybe not, but for now :smoke:) and had David on tenterhooks as to whether it would go top ten. Thankfully, it did, and Scooch didn't, and Molitva won. Now that's a happy ending for a year of tantrums :heart:

31: United Kingdom 2002 - Jessica Garlick - Come Back // 3rd; 111 points

 

 

This finished third, not joint third :smoke::kink: I kid of course! :heehee: Perhaps I've put this too low in retrospect, and with Britain churning out utter $h!te and blaming it on politics year in, year out, maybe I don't appreciate this as much as I should. :( To quote Hawkins & Brown, they just don't make 'em like they used to! -_-

30: Slovenia 2002 - Sestre - Samo Ljubezen // 13th; 33 points

 

 

To this day I don't understand why Eurovision has a reputation for drag acts when there have only been about 3! :lol: This was indeed the first, and about a million times better than Scooch's sorry attempt at airline-themed camp debauchery :smoke: The music video puts Wow! to shame! :heehee:
