Neighbourly voting always hits the countries around the 11-15 position, and pushes the ones that should be in the region of 12-14 up into the top ten, which is why Belgium faltered. :(

Love Kate Ryan. I can't help but laugh at how that random guys leg got in there though...
17: Germany 2003 - Lou - Let's Get Happy! // 11th; 53 points

Oh God, this must be one of my ultimate guilty pleasures :blush: This uber-cheesefest sadly missed out on top 10 that year, and really does set records for campness :heehee: I mean come on, look at the lyric "Let's get happy and let's be gay" - you can't tell me that was intended in the original sense of the word in this of all songs!

classic song, I was convinced this would win  Germany are always a bit oddball with their entries, I always look forward to see what they send!

16: Sweden 2008 - Charlotte Perrelli - Hero // 18th; 47 points

Oh Charlotte, where did it all go wrong? :( Why couldn't you nail the performance - why was the performance so ridiculously understated for such a great song? :(

If history were written properly, she'd have won in 1999 with this and come 18th in 2008 with Take Me To Your Heaven tbh :smoke:

she sung it fine as far as I can see, perhaps Europe was just bored of the Swedish schlager...its a genre I could never get bored of though :kink:

I think the song had three other problems:

1) being the fan favourite is never a good thing, they often underperform as people assume they will get votes from elsewhere and don't bother voting themselves

2) the black and white effect was dire...I thought it was awful in Melodifestivalen and they kept it for the ESC! ridiculous decision

3) Charlotte doesn't strike me as someone who would love to win again...she looks a bit cold and this performance was amazing but also clinical, there wasn't much emotion there...she's not the sort of person most people would have warmed to enough to vote for

absolutely love those Ukrainian songs you posted here, and OMG Russia has been top 3 for 3 consecutive years :o :o

Let's get happy and let's be friends for tomorrow never never ends :music:

I do have to admit I didn't vote for Sweden as I thought she'd get more than enough votes from the UK anyway and Norway and Iceland wouldn't
How wrong you were Tyron. :( I voted for Iceland. :D

14: Russia 2006 - Dima Bilan - Never Let You Go // 2nd; 248 points

Yes Dima, this is what you should've won with :smoke: Would've been much better if you'd switched with Finland in 2006 and switched with Ukraine this year tbh  Granted, the hair's improved since then, but this dark slice of modern pop really really really really was just sexy.

He's so fit. :( And he has such a sexual voice too.

13: Norway 2008 - Maria Haukaas Storeng - Hold On, Be Strong // 5th; 182 points

AHHHH, love this! The performance of this fantastically classy song (excusing the odd duff lyric like love catching you off guard like bad crimes *cringe*) really was fantastic, and I would've been willing to murder things had it not qualified! The performing position in the final as well enabled this to go top 5 as it deserved...thank god it hadn't been drawn earlier, that would've been a disaster for Maria! Norway have really come up with the goods so far this decade

Maria made her entry into my top 100 best songs of all time yesterday, along with Charlotte Perrelli  the standard this year was amazing for me

12: United Kingdom 1996 - Gina G - Just A Little Bit // 8th; 77 points

Ahh, the perennial favourite! I don't think we can be in any doubt that this song not winning that year was a key motive for introducing televoting, especially after it went on to be such a massive hit worldwide - even peaking just outside the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100! :o A 90s disco anthem, back when we cared and loved Eurovision!:(

11: Sweden 2001 - Friends - Listen To Your Heartbeat // 5th; 100 points

Another one that really should've won instead of Estonia :( Let's get past the fact it rips off the Belgian entry from 1996, is just a quicker version of The Winner Takes It All, had the wrong version performed (the one with a dancey beat over it was amaze! :(); this just f***ing rules

and also sounds like Steps' After The Love Has Gone and H & Claire's All Out Of Love...one of 7 or 8 INCREDIBLE songs from 2001

Gina G deserved far higher... such an amazing song, even if she did perform from second and not have the best live vocal.

Israel

Malta

Russia

Serbia

Sweden

United Kingdom

hmm...

I expect to see

Greece: Helena Paparizou's My Number One

Israel: Dana International's Diva or perhaps Shiri Maymon's The Silence That Remains (can't decide which one)

Malta: Ira Losco's 7th Wonder

Russia: Serebro's Song Number 1

Serbia: Marija Serifovic's Molitva

Sweden: Lena Philipsson's It Hurts :kink:

United Kingdom: Katrina and the Waves' Love Shine A Light
