January 3, 200916 yr Author Elvis' Gold 68 Cadillac To Be Sold Elvis Presley's gold 1968 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado, complete with a bullet hole in the fender, is one of the hundreds of rare, vintage and collector cars up for grabs at the Boca Raton South Florida Collector Car Auction this week. Promoters have billed the auction at the Royal Palm Polo Grounds in suburban Boca Raton as the largest of its kind ever to be held in the Sunshine State. Aside from the gold Eldorado, officials will auction a blue embroidered shirt worn by Elvis and even a few strands of his hair. The story behind the car, steeped in the legend that is Elvis Presley, goes like this: Just days before the birth of their daughter, Presley and his wife, Priscilla, climbed into the Eldorado to take a trip to the doctor's office. Despite being purchased just months before, the car wouldn't start. Elvis wasn't happy. He fetched a pistol from his house, walked outside and shot the car in the fender. After Lisa Marie's birth, Presley gave the car to his father-in-law as a gift on the condition that he never repair the bullet hole. Once Priscilla's father died, a car collector purchased the Eldorado and showcased it for years at a Planet Hollywood restaurant in Australia. In 2000, collectible dealer Hal Wagner bought the car, shipped it back to the United States and displayed it in his Kansas City showroom. During that time, he added a custom-made Elvis robot that sits in the car, buzzes to life and recounts the car's history. Wagner said Wednesday he plans to downsize his showroom, leaving little space for Presley's bullet-holed auto. "To put it into storage, it would be just sad," he said. The event begins today and runs through Sunday. Admission is $10 today and $20 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The cars, from the classic to the kitschy and worth a combined estimated $65 million to $75 million, will stretch across 132 acres on the polo grounds. Other notable vehicles that will go on the block include a 1967 half-car, half-boat Amphicar 770 convertible, a 1973 Ferrari Daytona formerly owned by Rod Stewart, and a 1972 Rolls-Royce Phantom VI Landaulet, one of only five ever produced and worth an estimated $1.5 million. A portion of the proceeds from the car and memorabilia auction will benefit the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. A representative from the organization could not be reached Wednesday. Dean Kruse, whose Auburn, Ind.-based company has run the annual South Florida auction in various locations for 35 years, said collector cars are a good investment in uncertain financial times. The recession has a two-fold effect, he said. While cash-strapped sellers bring more cars to auction, unstable markets drive more investors to the comparably stable collector car world. "Our business since the crash has been up," Kruse said. Classic and exotic car dealer Stuart Siegle said his love for cars started as a hobby but turned into a business over time. The Boca Raton resident is auctioning 12 cars, including a red 1971 Mercedes Benz 3.5 convertible, but said he also will be on the prowl for any good deals at the auction. "I'm sure I'll find something that will strike my fancy," he said. Source: Google / Updated: Jan 2, 2009

March 28, 200916 yr Author Elvis Auction attracts high bids: As noted below the online auction house 'Gotta Have It!' featured an Elvis memorabilia auction ending on March 25 with more than 400 lots. Highlights in this auction were the blue/gold jumpsuit from the Madison Square Garden concert, the white grand piano that once stood in the music room in Graceland and a combination of a black pants and shirt that Elvis use in his free time. The auction ended with results far higher than anticipated. Many items were sold for a price over the estimated values. Somewhat surprisingly Elvis' white Knabe Grand Piano attracted no bids at all. Worth noting are: Madison Square Garden Jumpsuit Estimated value $150,000-$200,000: Sold for $212,588 Black Pants and Shirt Estimated value $9,000-$10,000: Sold for $33,152 Silver and Turquoise Stage Belt Estimated value $10,000-$12,000: Sold for $24,906 14KT Gold and Diamond Owl Ring Estimated value $7,000-$8,000: Sold for $40,388.40 / € 29.733 Elvis wore this Owl ring a lot in December 1970 however Elvis eventually tired of it and gave it away on a whim to his record producer Felton Jarvis. March 30, 200916 yr Author Elvis' "Ode To A Robin" Sells: EIN featured an article on the Elvis Memorabila Auction last week but now the tabloid media have discovered Elvis' “Ode to a Robin”. Here is what they report... ..>>> They say one can never put a price on an item that once used to belong to one of the most famous figures in the music industry, but the most recent auction of Elvis memorabilia just did. The bird murder poem that went up for sale a little over a week ago was just now sold for the whopping sum of $20,035.20. The unique poem managed to sell for more than the expected price. When the auction opened over at GottaHaveIt, the initial announcement said that, “Ode to a Robin,” the poem that Elvis himself wrote and was immensely proud of, would get about $4,000-5,000, since there were other items in the massive auction that seemed of more interest with fans. Yet, it looks like the King’s handwriting convinced one lucky buyer to shell out over $20,000 for it. “Elvis Presley handwrote this poem and initialed it in blue ballpoint pen on his personal stationery titled ‘From the home of… Elvis Presley.’ The yellow stationery measures 5” x 5.25”. This is a poem that Elvis would recite often on stage and in his personal life, called ‘Ode to a Robin.’ (EIN note: It can be found on the FTD 'Made In Memphis') http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/OdeToARobin_medXXx.jpg Elvis even used it on his home phone message machine recording. He wrote the poem down for several people and this one was given to his very good friend Charlie Hodge in the 1970’s. Comes with signed letter from Hodge on his personally stationery dated December 12, 1993.” a description of the poem on the website hosting the auction reads. Although relatively short, the “Ode to a Robin” is full of surprises. As several media outlets have pointed out at the time the auction was opened, the poem starts on a happy note and ends in tragedy, just like the singer’s life. Its value mostly relies on the fact that it presents a side of Elvis as few got to know him, which brings this lucky buyer who nabbed it one step closer to the King as he truly was, it has been stressed.Go here for some great pictures and more details http://www.gottahaverockandroll.com/catalog.aspx (News, Source;EIN) Elvis reciting that poem always makes me smile

May 7, 200916 yr Author Rare Elvis acetate for sale: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/vinyl_acetate.jpg A very rare acetate has popped up on eBay. The songs are: Your Cheatin' Heart; Crying In The Chapel; Tell Me Why; When It Rains It Really Pours; Angel; Sound Advice; A Whistling Tune; You'll Be Gone; In My Way; Forget Me Never; Tomorrow Night; For The Millionth And The Last Time. The sound sample of 1954's "Tomorrow Night" sounds undubbed, which means this pressing was done prior to the March 18, 1965 overdub session in Nashville - it also sounds as if You'll Be Gone is an alternate take. According to experts on the FECC Forum, it seems to be an early pressing of the Elvis For Everyone LP containing all unreleased tunes that RCA had in the can as of the middle of 1962, since You'll be Gone is the latest recording on the acetate. However, it was strange that Angel and A Whistling Tune would included since it had already been inlcuded on the Follow That Dream EP and Kid Galahad, respectively. The signatures are fake, unfortunately. If you're interested: here's the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ELVIS-PRESLEY-SIGNED-A...%3A1%7C294%3A50 (News, Source: Elvis Matters)

August 18, 200915 yr Author Gary Pepper Elvis archives to be auctioned: Leslie Hindman Auctioneers announces a once in a lifetime opportunity for Elvis Presley collectors and fans. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/garypepper_Memwedding2.jpg Over the years many collectors have asked, “Whatever happened to the Gary Pepper collection of Elvis Presley memorabilia?” Early in his career, Presley befriended Gary Pepper, a young man with cerebral palsy, who ultimately became a close friend and the president of one of the King's first fan clubs, allowing him to amass a significant collection of personal effects gifted to him from Presley himself. When Pepper moved to California, he left the majority of his collection to his friend and nurse, who was originally hired by Elvis to look after Gary. Hopeful that collectors and fans can enjoy the memorabilia so treasured by Gary Pepper (shown opposite with Elvis and Priscilla at their wedding), she has recently decided to sell the collection at auction. Untouched for over three decades, this special collection will be offered for sale at Leslie Hindman Auctioneers, Sunday, October 18th, 2009 with a public exhibition Thursday, October 15th through Saturday, October 17th. A portion of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to United Cerebral Palsy of the Mid-South. Highlights from the auction include clothing worn by Elvis Presley, a large lock of Presley’s hair, a telegram sent to Gary while Elvis was in the Army, Christmas cards to Gary from Priscilla and Elvis, a significant collection of Elvis LPs and 45s, two near mint Sun records, as well as numerous 45s from Presley's own juke box, autographed record sleeves, an incredible selection of souvenirs, movie stills and Graceland ephemera, and other memorabilia from celebrities such as signed photographs of the Jackson Five and Marilyn Monroe. Additionally, the auction will include hundreds of candid photographs of Elvis, including photos documenting some of the most intimate moments in Presley’s life and career such as his return home from the Army, his wedding to Priscilla, Lisa Marie’s first days home from the hospital, and other photos taken at Graceland. Many of these images were taken by Gary Pepper with a Polaroid camera that Elvis gave him early in their friendship. A number of these original photographs were featured in The Tankcaster, the newsletter for Elvis’ fan club known as “The Tankers,” which are included in the auction as well as the Polaroid camera itself. While Elvis’ life has been well documented, the intimate photographs and items in this sale give collectors and historians a new glimpse into Elvis’ life and character through his enduring friendship with Gary from the early days of his career until his death. Thirty two years after his death, this collection presents a remarkable post-script to Elvis’ life and legacy. (News, Source: artdaily.org)
