Elvis Fan Letter Sold

The handwritten letter by Elvis Presley to a fan, has fetched a final bid of $7,613.

The authenticated letter was written (by Elvis) to the fan who met and then wrote Presley in late 1955. The auction also included a letter from the fan, detailing the encounter they had with Elvis.

I don’t think I would ever let it go if I was the fan, but I guess they must have their reasons for doing so :)

Look at that 45 rpm beauty!

You don't see them too often, these original 45 rpms from way back when. This particular ep was pressed in Brussels, Belgium while the thick sleeve (the only one that features all Blue Moon Boys) was made in the Netherlands. This beauty, every collector's dream, is currently up for sale on eBay, but cheap it is not.

Anyway, from the description: According to the book "Elvis, king of Belgium" by Peter Verbruggen Disel pressed the RCA discs up until the end of 1957 after which they were printed in Germany by Teldec until 1974 when RCA Belgium started to press discs.

The label number sequence indicates it is an EP from 1956 and the only EP that features a picture of Elvis, Scotty, Bill & D.J. on the frontsleeve. Same picture was used for volume 2 but the colour changed.

I have only ever seen this EP offered for sale once before, at Utrecht in the Netherlands with an asking price of 2500 Euro's. The cover has fantastic laminate & shine, so much more appealing than the flat cardboard used for the USA issued EP, which was the ONLY other EP ever issued showing all the band members on the sleeve. This is a candidate for the nicest & rarest Elvis EP ever issued anywhere in the world. A classic photo, 4 all time classic tracks, and a mindblowing design add up to create a singular Elvis collectible. This may be the only chance to add this vintage 1950's issued EP to your collection.

How many red jackets from Jailhouse Rock?:

Interesting and important thread on FECC about a number of red jackets, all allegedly used during the filming of Jailhouse Rock.

Was there more than one jacket or are buyers being taken for a ride?

See EIN's original story below dated 3 March

From the FECC thread:

The Baystar Dude: Yesterday one is sold on an auction in New York for $41,434.80. But on the new Hard Rock 'Memorabilia' website i find a same kind of jacket which is still on display in Gothenburg, Sweden! Who has the real one?

Little Darlin: That one from the HARD ROCK Cafe looks a little new to me.....could be the lighting as well though.

King of the Jungle: I am suspicious of both, though I am quite certain the one than recently sold in the "gottahaverockandroll" auction was a fake.

It had a "Lansky" tag rather crudely stitched in beneath the "Macgregor" (the jacket's manufacturer) tag, and I inquired with Mr. Lansky whether it looked right, and he said it didn't. I gathered that they didn't put their tag in secondary positions on pieces made by other companies. If it had a Lansky tag, it was made for Lansky's, otherwise it would just have the tag of the original manufacturer. I also talked to a good friend who was a close friend of Homer "Gill" Gilleland, whom the jacket allegedly came from. He had seen much of Gill's items given to him by Elvis, and talked with Gill about them a number of times. According to him, not only did he never see this red jacket in Gill's collection, but Gill never mentioned such a thing, which makes it hard for him to believe Gill ever owned such a recognizable item without saying a word about it.

A perfect Sun 45 rpm on eBay

The auction has ended with a winning bid of $10000:

Just when we thought we've seen it all, this mint+ 45 rpm record of That's All Right Mama (Sun 209) pops up on eBay. From the description: Here it is - the one you've been waiting for - a mint, unplayed original pressing of the 45 that launched it all: Elvis Presley's landmark 1954 debut record "That's All Right"/"Blue Moon of Kentucky" (Sun 209), from the personal collection of Sun Records Promotion Manager Cecil Scaife! Cecil donated another copy from this very batch (Sam Phillips gave him a box of 25 copies back in the 1950's) to the Country Music Hall Of Fame for display. We had the distinction of listing one of Cecil's copies back in 2006 and we are beyond honored to offer another one up to you now in 2010! As you can see by the photos, this 45 comes out of its original shipping box (not included as part of this auction), is housed in its original brown stock paper sleeve, and is guaranteed original and unplayed!

This 45 - being unplayed - is in mint condition. Its labels, which have the push marks caused by the equipment at Plastic Products (the pressing plant that manufactured Sun records at the time), are also in mint condition, with raw flecks still flaking off the spindle hole! You couldn't have found a nicer copy if you'd walked into Poplar Tunes in July, 1954 to buy one hot off the press.

With 6 more hours to go, the highest bid is 10,000.00 so far...

The live auction will take place Friday, April 23 at 6:00 p.m. EDT, and will continue on Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25 at 10:00 a.m. EDT daily, with online bidding taking place via Proxibid. Auction registration for each day is already available by visiting www.proxibid.com/pwauctions.

The three-day event includes many rare items, including vintage Star Wars figurines in their original packaging, important papers and Beatles memorabilia. The document was signed by Elvis and his parents, Vernon and Gladys Presley, and will cross the auction block during the April 25 sale.

The file also includes the contract to acquire the home Elvis initially purchased in Memphis, at 1034 Audubon Road. That document is signed by all three Presleys and details the price paid and the terms. Later, when Elvis purchased Graceland, part of the agreement had him turning the Audubon Road property over to Ruth Brown Moore. Additionally, the documents for Elvis’ purchase of the Circle G Ranch, where Elvis and Priscilla honeymooned in 1967, will be sold as part of this file.

Unique Ebay Offer - LAMAR FIKE'S MEMPHIS MAFIA JACKET:

If you are after a piece of the Memphis Mafia, then you should get on over to ebay for your chance to own Lamar Fikes Mafia jacket. Back in '97, five of the original Memphis Mafia, Billy Smith, Red and Sonny West, Marty Lacker and Lamar Fike embarked on a project of the highly acclaimed video production, "All The King's Men".

In conjunction with the videos, special clothing was custom made which included golf style shirts with the Memphis Mafia logo and a very special team jacket that had the big Memphis Mafia logo on the back, in the Mafia colours of Red and White on the black background of the jackets colour. The sleeves were made with black leather and a smaller Mafia logo was on one front side of the jacket with Lamar's name on the other.

Lamar hates to part with it but as many of you know he has been battling Cancer and the treatments are very expensive. So much so that it greatly depleted all of his vast savings which he had accumulated after a very successful career in the Nashville Music Industry. So Lamar is now offering his jacket to the highest bidder to some very lucky Elvis fan
