The King Makers - Elvis' record collection for sale:

Elvis Presley's collection of the records that influenced his music and put him on the path to fame is up for sale. In 1968 The King asked his guitarist, manager and friend Scotty Moore to transfer his favourite 78s on to reel-to-reel tape.

Moore's letter authenticating the set says: "Elvis left me the briefcase with the records and asked me to mail the tape back to his house in Memphis. I made a safety copy for myself and kept the records and tape in my studio in Nashville. Elvis never asked for the records to be returned."

The discs cover a wide range of music including Ray Charles, Fats Domino, Sammy Davis Junior and Carl Perkins - and Elvis recorded many of the songs himself.

Moore has decided to sell the 26 records - which could make £125,000 - through the Fame Bureau auction house in London on Thursday. James Wilkinson from the Fame Bureau said: "These records really were the birth of rock 'n' roll because they influenced Elvis in his very early days."

26 songs which inspired Presley:

• Joe Turner: Corrine Corrina and Boogie Woogie Country Girl.

• The Dominoes: That's What You're Doing To Me and When The Swallows Come Back To Capistrano.

• Ivory Joe Hunter: It's A Sin and Don't You Believe Her.

• Roy Brown: Hurry, Hurry Baby and Travelin' Man.

• Fats Domino: Blueberry Hill and Honey Chile.

• The crickets: You're Mine and Milk And Gin.

• Tommy Edwards: It's All In The Game and All Over Again.

• Ray Charles: I Got A Woman and Come Back.

• Hank Snow: I'm Gonna Bid My Blues Goodbye and Just A Faded Petal From A Beautiful Bouquet.

• Louis Jones And His Band: Rock And Roll Bells and All Over, Goodbye.

• Lowell Fulson: Reconsider Baby and I Believe I'll Give Up.

• Brownie Mcghee: I'm 10,000 Years Old and Cherry Red.

• The Four Lads: Moments To Remember and Dream On, My Love, Dream On.

• Johnny Ace With The Beale Streeter: My Song and Follow The Rule.

• Roy Hamilton: Hurt and Star Of Love.

• Sammy Davis Jr: Because Of You Parts 1 & 2.

• Fats Domino: Ain't It A Shame and La-La.

• Lloyd Price: Lawdy Miss Clawdy and Mailman Blues.

• Buddy Blake: Rosie and You'll Cry For Me.

• The Pearls: Your Cheatin' Heart and I Sure Need You.

• Ivory Joe Hunter: Since I Met You Baby and You Can't Stop This Rockin' And Rollin'.

• Carl Perkins: Matchbox and Your True Love.

• Billy Ward And His Dominoes: Rags To Riches and Don't Thank Me.

• The Billy Vaughn Orchestra: The Shifting Whispering Sands parts one and two.

• Arthur Gunter: Baby Let's Play House and Blues After Hours

• Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton: Hound Dog and Night Mare

12.000 Record Collection For Sale

Britain's biggest Elvis auction is due to take place this summer, after a superfan decided to sell his record collection. Pub landlord Steve Lacey, 44, began his obsession with the King when he was just 11, after he heard the singing legend's death announced on the radio. He went on to amass the UK's largest collection of Elvis records, an astonishing 12,000 discs from around the world.

Steve said: "I'm a fan of all types of music but I got hooked on Elvis as a child. I started spending my pocket money and cash I earned on my paper-round on Elvis records, and it snowballed from there. We've gone without holidays abroad and fancy cars to invest in the collection, but the time has come to sell up." Experts reckon Steve's incredible selection of recordings will fetch around £250,000 (€300,000) when they are auctioned at Bamford's in Derby on 4 July. The prize lot is a complete set of 78 singles from Elvis's time at Sun Records, which are estimated to go under the hammer for up to £10,000 (€12,000).

Alan Judd, collectors department manager at Bamford's said: "It's an honour to sell such a great collection. I've chosen American Independence Day for the sale as Elvis was a great patriot. We're expecting collectors from all over the world to attend the sale, or take part via live online bidding." The collection will be split into 1,500 lots, marked from 'rare' to 'ultra ultra rare', a category which includes Por Favor No Tires De La Cuerda, an Argentinian imprint of Please Don't Drag That String Around.

Steve said: "I've got an imprint from every country in the world that produced Elvis records. In the last few years I've bought things from eBay and other websites, but before that I contacted dealers by letter or phone. For three quarters of my life I've collected Elvis records, so it'll be strange to see them go." One person who will be glad to see the back of the collection is Steve's wife Tina. He smiled: "I didn't dare have Elvis for the first dance at our wedding, but I have been to Memphis once. It was almost impossible to insure the collection and the wife has had enough of seeing Elvis around the place.

We haven't got a mortgage as I've always invested in the records. When you see pieces doubling in price a few years after you've bought them it's difficult to stop. I've kept about 20 silver, gold and platinum discs and a few guitars in the corner of the pub where we have live musicians on. The regulars were used to seeing them and asked me not to box them up with the rest of the collection. But now I've just got one CD of Elvis's 40 Greatest Hits, which is plenty."

A New Attempt

Elvis Presley's white grand piano and a 1955 record contract are going up for auction in Memphis next month.

The piano, which he bought in 1957 and kept at his Graceland home, is expected to fetch more than $1m (£645,000).

A contract with RCA Records, signed by Presley, his father and manager, Colonel Tom Parker, is expected to fetch more than $150,000 (£97,000).

The 1957 Graceland purchase agreement is among other items for sale at the 14 August auction.

It has an estimated price of $35,000 (£22,600) while a four-page handwritten letter to girlfriend Anita Wood from 1958 is expected to fetch $75,000 (£48,500).

Other items being auctioned include some gold-framed sunglasses and Presley's address and phone book.

Doug Norwine, of Heritage Auctions, said the piano was "an emotionally-charged prized possession of the King himself".

Presley bought the white Knabe piano from the Ellis Auditorium in Memphis where it had been played by visiting gospel performers.

Last week, instruments said to have been used during Presley's post-mortem examination were withdrawn from a Chicago auction after their authenticity was questioned.

Rubber gloves, a toe tag and other tools had been expected to fetch $14,000 (£9,000) at auction in August.

Marty's selling again on eBay B)

'Elvis The Record' Marty Lacker's Personal Collection on EBay:

Now on EBay, this is a much sought after collectors' item that was extremely popular from early 1979 to early 1981 when Marty Lacker and Elvis' cousin Billy Smith decided to write an exclusive magazine for Elvis fans called 'Elvis The Record'.

The issues were chock full of inside stories, interviews and pictures, from Billy and Marty as well as other members of the Memphis Mafia and others connected to Elvis. They also set the record straight on other people’s writings, documentaries and false claims about Elvis. Marty and Billy and others related their personal stories about all their years with Elvis.

There are 8 issues in all dated from early ’79 to early ’81. Marty and Billy had to stop printing the magazine as it had begun to take up time away from their regular work back then.

It includes the most sought after individual issue dated August, ’79 that was a special Memorial issue of the magazine which was valued at $250 just for that issue. This set of magazines and issues are Marty’s personal copies and can be personally autographed.

As an Elvis fan this will make a great, rare addition to your collection.

Elvis Mercedes Sold For Over 125,000.00 $US

A car that once belonged to Elvis Presley and is said to be one of a handful of cars he registered in his name has been auctioned in Surrey. The Mercedes-Benz 600 was sold for £80,700 (126,800.00 $US), Bonhams auctioneers said. Elvis kept the car for two years before giving it to a friend, Bonhams said. The car was later sold.

The auction was held at Mercedes-Benz World at the Brooklands racing circuit, also home to the Brooklands motoring museum, near Weybridge. Bonhams said the car, one of two Mercedes 600 cars owned by Presley, had been restored to a very high standard. Presley gave the car to his friend James Leroy Robertson.

The person who was selling the car, who has not been named, bought it from Robertson Motors Memphis in 2005 and had it exported to the UK.
