June 21, 200817 yr Let's just hope he's appreciated for GWTW and it's short run not used against him. I loved the show and so did the vast majority of people seeing it.
June 21, 200817 yr I honestly wouldnt like to see him do Carousel, dont feel it stretches him enough (acting wise!!) after Rhett.
June 21, 200817 yr Well, when he doesn't shave for a few days - and he can act but, it doesn't seem right at the moment
June 21, 200817 yr Author I really hope something comes from GWTW, it would be a waste if not after all the positve comments and reviews he got - unless its much like films, where it takes a really successful one to make someones name.
June 22, 200817 yr Author don't get me started - I am amazed at the other shows that dont seem to be filling theatres which seem to get longer!
June 22, 200817 yr This was an expensive production - 36 actors for a start. I hate critics. In a way, it's put me off going to the theatre.
June 22, 200817 yr At least there is plenty of scope in the West End at the present time. Musicals are well and truly in vogue.......there appear to be far more of them than straight plays. But I think all theatres are going to suffer as people tighten their belts in the economic crisis.
June 22, 200817 yr In the gossip, several forthcoming shows are mentioned.......Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Harry Potter, Coloured Lights, Phantom 2 .................Shrek is opening on Broadway in November, and Brokeback Mountain is being written as an opera. And of course Carousel. June 22, 200817 yr Did howard keel play it on the stage, cant remember, know he played loads of film musicals.Am about to show my age now, when I was young I saw Carousel with a canadian singer with a wonderful deep voice in the lead called Edmund Hockridge, he had apart from the voice, good looks, stage presence and was tall. I suppose you could say he was the michael ball of that time. I also saw him in Kismet and the Pyjama game. His voice was very distinctive. quote -At least there is plenty of scope in the West End at the present time. Musicals are well and truly in vogue.......there appear to be far more of them than straight plays. But I think all theatres are going to suffer as people tighten their belts in the economic crisis. There are lots of shows but there are musicals and musicals!! Some are frothy dross with not much story or have been done to death. To me GWTW allowed D to show his acting ability as well as his singing ability, not sure what of the current/upcoming crop would although could see him as the lead in Showboat (another howard keel role and another american accent)!! although something completely new would be a challenge there would be the worry of what happened to GWTW.although something else new would be a different set up.
June 23, 200817 yr Did howard keel play it on the stage, cant remember, know he played loads of film musicals. It was at the beginning of his career. On stage, at one point he was playing Oklahoma in a matinee, then rushing to another theatre in the evening to play Carousel.
June 23, 200817 yr I think if I was Darius I'd have a holiday first and think through what my preferences were re acting/singing/writing, theatres/TV/film and UK/US and how I'd ideally want to balance them in an ideal future. I'd take a decision, inform my management and let them start doing what they're paid for. Like it or lump it, being Rhett must've made Darius realise that he is a very good actor ( he never had any doubts about his singing ability), much better than the best of the jukebox musicals and many of the classic musicals demand of their male leads. Darius could do any of those "Howard Keel" ones with ease. I liked Howard Keel but he certainly wasn't a great actor. Darius said he hadn't read the reviews. Maybe he should and he should bear in mind these people's jobs are to criticise. For them to virtually all praise him means he must've been not just good in their eyes but very, very good in a demanding role. To watch him play Billy or Sky again would be like watching a champ pull his punches being unable to really let loose. I thought he would have headed straight back to LA and I was surprised to see the pictures of him at Pharrell William's do. He's still only 27 and he's played 3 brilliant lead roles in MT and risen to each new challenge with ease. As someone in America said "Darius Danesh has a long and rewarding career ahead of him" - but it needs to be nurtured and steered in the right direction. I personally don't have the confidence that his current management is capable of doing that. I can only hope that Darius has enough nous to make the best final decisions for himself.
