December 20, 200816 yr The fact that GWTW kept changing right until the closing notices didn't help in that dept. No use recording songs no longer in it.
December 20, 200816 yr Another snippet which you wont want to hear Last night switched tv on late when got to bed and it was bbc review of the year fronted by Kirsty ? cant think of her surname., She does the serious programmes late forties I would think, scottish. Anyway they were going through the musicals etc and showed Darius and Jill singing in a very short clip and then said GWTW was blown away. So I held on and they interviewed a large number of people about their highlights and lowlights of the year mostly I would think journalists, critics etc. Anyway you know whats coming. They interviewed this dark haired woman who I did not recognise at all and thats unusual or me. She said GWTW was worse than having a baby and she would rather have a baby than sit through GWTW again. Sorry. Cant possibly agree with her having done both.
December 20, 200816 yr A bit more from the Stage - Producers of West End musicals continue to be undeterred by the whitening skeletons of previous mishaps. The New London Theatre had the unenviable task of hosting two flops in succession in Gone With the Wind and now Imagine This. There were the usual defiant messages from the shows’ producers, pointing out that the audiences who had turned up had been wildly enthusiastic. One never ceases to wonder at the boundless optimism of producers that seems to blind them to the extraordinary difficulty of making a successful piece of musical theatre. Lessons will be learnt, politicians invariably intone after some public scandal. If only. There is a lovely picture of Darius and Jill accompaning the above report.
December 20, 200816 yr We were there and know that the producers were telling the truth - the vast majority of the audience loved it.
December 20, 200816 yr GWTW was such a colossal failure (in some people's eyes), having cost such a huge amount of money, that I think it will be remembered almost as long as if it had been a success.
December 20, 200816 yr But not for the right reasons. It was the best peice of theatre I've ever seen. The only one i can think of at the moment that brought tears to my eyes and made me laugh as well.
December 20, 200816 yr Just listening to 'Alone' again. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=VmeWq8SHRjk&...feature=related
December 22, 200816 yr Now put on some Xmas carols and get into the Xmas mood, even if they are the quieter, choir-sung carols. Father-in Law wouldn't have wanted you all to have a miserable Xmas.
December 22, 200816 yr Oh he would. He specialized in spoiling christmas. He didn't like celebrations of any sort.
December 23, 200816 yr So, break out the bubbly, let carols fill the air and let rip for a memorable Xmas.
December 23, 200816 yr We are the only family which can sing carols - usually with either the wrong words or the wrong tune. Doesn't stop us though. The aching sides when we can't stop laughing don't help. The best was 'O Come All Ye Faithful' sung to the tune of 'Once in Royal David's city' - and we were all singing.
January 5, 200916 yr Bit too late now, Spam. Isn't it supposed to bring bad luck to sing carols after Xmas. Today is the twelfth day of Xmas, after which all Xmas decorations have to be removed to stave off bad luck, according to a very superstitious friend. ( Most people around here took them down yesterday, so woe betide their hopes of good luck !!!!! )
January 6, 200916 yr we've not had Christmas this year....... I do hate seeing chocolate eggs straight after Christmas
January 7, 200916 yr Cadburys always seem off the mark with their creme eggs........ shelves full at Tesco.
January 7, 200916 yr I heard somebody say that they always eat a Cadbury's creme egg whilst take down their Christmas decorations! Sue
