I suppose it's a double-edged sword. If they're good, they can usually be used for PR and if they're bad, they can be quietly ignored because few people read the Arts sections anyway.

Unfortunately for GWTW selective quotes from its worst ones were plastered all over the news pages with the intention perhaps to get at Sir Trevor, Margaret Martin and possibly Darius (by omission).

I think Darius only really came into it after it annouced it was closing. Unril then it was Trevor's show and Darius was praised for his performance - after that, it was Darius' flop show.

If it had been his show, he could have been proud as it was brilliant.

I think the funniest jibe was the one abuut only cockroaches can supposedly survive nuclear annilihation but you wouldn't lay a bet against Darius Danesh surviving to be their insect overlord.

That's what you call a comeback king!

There's an animated film in there somewhere.

I think the fact that Darius did the TV programmes about GWTW linked him in peoples' minds with the show,

moreso than the other people in it.

I'm not sure that anyone would have thought of him before Trevor. A Trevor Nunn play is something special. Darius just happened to be brilliant in it.

Seems odd to us, but there are lots of people to whom the name Trevor Nunn means nothing. There are a lot of

people who watch TV but to whom the theatre world is a closed book.

It's so expensive that many just wont spend the money on theatre when the cinema is so much cheaper. It's a shame as there is no comparison. I love some films but, it's the difference between live and manufactured.
I dont like that word manufactured, its used too often in other spheres.

To many of them, the name Darius still has a familiar ring although he only ever does a half dozen TV daytime shows when he's doing theatre, so the news stories linking Darius with Trevor Nunn and the selections of the worst quotes from the critics' mauling of GWTW covered all the bases and for the general public reflected more badly on Darius, by omitting to mention that he personally had done well.

So much is down to perception and the media always seem to make it work against Darius, whether by lack of thought or by deliberation, I don't know.

Just the media having yet another go because of an innocent (well, almost) song he sang when he was 19.

The version he sang to try NOT to get put on air on the radio show, was not so innocent.

He still got put on air and one thing led to another until he found himself at the Popstars' auditions, not having a clue what he'd fallen into and at first singing those bawdy lyrics to Nicky et al. Can you imagine?

I'm not sure I would have forgiven a friend who dropped me into something so monumental as easily as Darius did.
But his friend was right - it was a chance. He wasn't to know what Darius would do with it.

The radio station had made it sound as if they were running an open talent contest with a recording contract as the prize. Of course his friend was frustrated that Darius couldn't be bothered to ring up because he knew how good he was but he still, in my opinion wnet too far, even if his intentions were good.

Was this the same guy who drew Darius into another little adventure and we almost got Darius as our morning weatherman?

I could've lived with seeing Darius up there smiling and spreading positivity every morning, but I prefer his music.

I prefer the music. I do like friends who can be bothered to try and help though. And this one didn't mind at all that although he went for the weather spot and Darius just kept him company, it was Darius who nearly got it.

Sheer charisma - a curse or a blessing?

Darius the weatherman would have been such a waste of talent.

Without the singing or the seeing what the person was like, I doubt very much that I'd have been interested.

He'd probably have quickly become a general TV presenter. I'm sure with practice he'd have been great.

I was really impressed when Darius co-presented Children In Need live for 5 hours. No autocue to read and lots of links to make right on time. He's got a nice relaxed style.
