...And perhaps, the most exciting transformation of all is the musical version of “Gone with the Wind,” which makes its debut on London’s West End Theater row this month.

The stage musical has a name director (Trevor Nunn), and casts American performer Jill Paice as Scarlett O’Hara and British singer Darius Danesh as Rhett Butler. Book, music and lyrics are by newcomer Margaret Martin.

If they had delayed it till now we would have had a more polished production with the longer rehearsal time.

News seems very delayed in the Philippines.

I got excited too. I heard the tale end of a report on the radio about a singer appearing in Iran from the Uk. Not D but wish it was.
The wizard of oz on in london at the moment is getting some panning on WOS. last post there - quote The cast clearly have stamina, as at least 3 are survivors of Gone with the Wind!!! I gather this is because it is lasting three hours. Another snippet apparently Zoe birket from Pop idol has ben offered a part in Priscilla queen of the desert.

From GWTW Julian Forsyth (Gerald O'Hara) plays Uncle Henry/Emerald City Guard in the Wizard of Oz.

Sussanah Fellows (Ellen O'Hara) plays Glinda the Good Witch of the North.

Don't know who the third one is.

My computer is playing up again.....now I expect I shall double-post.

Jina Burrows was the first person I heard was going into Wizard of Oz.

I thought all three were really good singers when I saw them in GWTW.

I can't actually imagine Susannah as Glinda.

The show has had some bad reports, good actors and music, but awful production.

I fear for the reputation of the West End as a purveyor of quality, if every show which isn't a jukebox musical or a tired old production of a well known musical, gets panned.

It's like High Street Theatre, all cast in the same mould and churned out without much passion or creativity - teeth and smiles and lots of big dance routines. Not my cup of tea at all. I'd rather seek out something more thought provoking in regional theatres, if that's the way the West End is going.

I've always preferred plays or musicals with a decent plot and characters with some depth to whom I can relate. GWTW was just perfect for me. A play where the music was integral, not tacked on, with the exception of a couple of songs which I felt were there for the sake of PC only.

Shame one of the PC songs was about the best in the show.

Wizard of Oz is part of our children's heritage, but apparently this show lacks the 'magic' which makes it so special

for them. A pity because at this time of summer holidays a lot of Mums will be introducing their children to the

theatre for the first time.

But I suppose we need to have some guidance on whether a show is worth spending an inordinate amount of money on.

Pity there isn't a site with unbiased opinions........but then every person is biased to some degree by their own interests

and standards.

I wish it were true but, even if it was, I couldn't be there as our 13 yr old is in a show I'll be going to.

I could be wrong but I thought I heard on the radio this afternoon the tailend of the news that the lights were going out in five london theatres because of the recession, as I said I could have heard it wrong.
Seems early for such measures, but could well be true.
