It appears Sir Trevor Nunn's disastrous musical adaptation of Gone with the Wind will not be consigned to a muddy grave just yet.

The multi-million pound production, which starred the singer Darius Danesh, closed in June after just three weeks at the New London theatre. After a critical panning, it's now widely considered one of the biggest turkeys of modern theatre.

Nunn insists, however, that opinions in the Far East have been quite different. The revered director tells me that he has just returned from a trip to Asia, where the prospect of a revival sparked considerable interest.

"It's funny – it came in for so much criticism here but over there people loved it. I got a lot of praise," he tells me. "There has been a lot of discussion about the possibility of taking a production over there. Nothing has been agreed but there has been a lot of talk. Put it this way: I've been in the same room as people discussing it."

While the prospect of a revival will no doubt cheer cast members left out of a job when the production closed, they would do well to keep in mind that any revival is unlikely to bear too close a resemblance to the London show.

"If we did decide to go ahead with it, there would be differences: it would be bigger, much more spectacular," says Nunn. "And who knows, from there it could go to the US and then maybe come back here."

Well, we know that Asia was enthusiastic when GWTW was closing. We also know GWTW wasn't a turkey but was destroyed by the critics - I've not read a review since. The cast didn't seem terribly enthusiastic about going to Asia though.

Ditto to what PIP says. Surely D would be just right for Asia. He was well received in India during the Colouiblind era. I also would love it to resurface.
Bit far to travel to watch a show or two let's hope it makes a big sucess and then goes to the US....before coming back here with Darius as Rhett :)

yup, would be good to see it do the rounds, build up the kudos it deserves - especially if tweaked along the way, then to reappear in WE - when the exchange rate is good for people around the world to come back to the UK, and things are looking up - with DARIUS as RHETT!!
If N is between filming, they could be on holiday. Who knows.

I only want him to do Rhett here....or perhaps the US

I can't see him committing to such a long stint

The time has gone much slower than it did while the run was on - it was something to look forward to.

oh I am so bitter, I couldnt watch the CIN hairspray without reminissing and replaying GWTW scenes in my head - it deserved to still be here really considering what else is on offer - Oliver for gods sake - I was so bored watching the same old I must know the songs by heart as I have been seeing that since 5, and being in school productions of it year after year!! - GWTW had potential as a proper musical had it been given the right start in life...as hubby said "let it go" but I cant
I don't think many of us can. If it hadn't been so good, I'd have enjoyed seeing D but been able to let go. It was the thought that it was good and was destroyed by a bunch of people interested only in making what they wanted to fail, fail. Makes me feel bitter.

I didn't realise that there had been talk of a Far Eastern production before GWTW closed in London.

If it comes about and if using local actors isn't part of the deal, I should think that after his performances in London, Darius would be a shoo-in for Rhett. He had it all - the charisma, the voice, the acting talent, the accent flawlessly sustained.

Darius must've thought about what he would do if he were asked to do it. It's a big commitment and would disrupt his private life and he may have other offers in the pipeline, but supposing GWTW becomes the major hit it should have been and he isn't on board, wouldn't that be tough too ?

The cast members who talked about it weren't very keen. Some of the women have kids and husbands and, it's a long way. People feel one way when their show is being closed and maybe, would think about it again when they weren't so upset.
