and many of the others wanted GWTW to fail because thay hadn't wanted GWTW to see the light of day again, because it was politically incorrect......how was it described by that guy? - a story whose heroes are slave owning racists.

Forgetting that the past shouldn't be re written. It was how it was. Prissy's role in the play shouldn't have existed any more than Ashley's line about having already decided to free his slaves.

However it was altered, the critics would have still panned it as Margaret and Trevor were involved. It actually makes me see red. It also makes me not read the critics. It did open my eyes to some things.

They interviewed Elaine Paige on This Morning and she was saying how she felt there is a need for new musicals to to be written and performed !!!! I wanted hit the screen with something. Sue

Wasn't that in the book

I can't remember....it could be I heard it several times watching the show that it feels as if it was.....

I might look when I get home....unless someone else knows

Well, whether it was or not, as far as I was concerned, the whole scene, along with Prissy's could have been cut. See? another 10 mins shaved of the length.

I'd really like to hear that solo Darius did in the first preview...............for the life of me I can't reember what it was about or like.

I do feel they should have left more of the Scarlett+Rhett screens in and removed Prissys song

I agree - more rhett scenes.that was the love story as people expected, and less Prissy and trying to be politically correct..thre really is no point to recording history or remembering the past if we sanatise and paint out what we think was wrong, hindsight is a wonderful thing
I do wish I could remember the lost song. I can remember the one cut from Prissy's part but not Darius - there was just so much to look at and try and remember. It had lost about an hour by the time it closed.

Blummin' heck I've replied 4 times to this and it keeps vanishing...

I said

we will just have to ask Darius what it was he sang...

please let this be posted......

I missed that, and so much more, because such a lot had been cut out by the time I eventually got to see it. I don't know how you remember as much as you do Meg. Sue

What was upset me the most was the cut to the second lullaby - it made a mockery of having it at all, when before it was a most heartrending scene. IMHO the cut should have been to cut out the gathering alongside, but most actors in it had had their part cut already, so it was only fair Darius had to also. I'd have cut the foundries and cannon works speech at the barbecue back to what it was in the film and left the second lullaby in its eternity.

that should of course be entirety, not eternity..

He just wasn't in the first half enough in the first preview. One of the comments heard was the best way they could improve it was to have more Rhett in the first half. We agreed with that. Jill seeemed to be singing all the time. I was waiting folr her voice to go. It was better when they cut that back. I did miss the proposal scene song as I thought it was funny.
