I think they should have had more Rhett scenes myself, I have read several reviews of the show sayinbg that Darius carried or was the highlight of the show, one such comment was from an American womans blog well versed with GWTW, she said she would have ledt at t eh interval had it not been for Darius' Rhett.

We said that from the first preview - more Rhett - but weren't we just being fans.

I honestly can't see how there could be more Rhett scenes in the first act and there's a big gap in the film until the jail scene. Darius is on fairly quickly in the 2nd act and then it's a Rhett bonanza..

Darius is in all the scenes Gable was in - the barbecue, the library, the bazaar, the casualty lists, Prissy fetching him after Melanie has Beau, the escape from Atlanta, off to war. The bazaar scene on stage is much shorter.

Darius has well and truly lived up to the entertainer's maxim - "Always leave them wanting more!"

well the scenes were clipped in places, and the bit when Rhett gets in Scarletts good books by bringing her that colourful hat when she should be in black wasnt there..tis a shame, as I am sure to a lot the main essence of GWTW is the interaction between Rhett and Scarlett, the essential love triangle so to speak.

Oh well...cant beleive its the last week. On another theatre forum there is a group going on the 11th, should be interesting reading what they will think, one of them who went to see it the other week expecting to hate it..loved it! I think it is getting a lot that way.

I just feel so sorry that after 10 years, and Trevor working on it for three, that they pulled it so very quickly, I cant get it into my head, such a production and they run out of money that quickly!?? perhaps they shouldnt have bought the right to say "Frankly" ...

I blame the investors.

IMHO they were too anxious to start the revenue coming in and they didn't allow enough time for rehearsals and previews. The schedule seemed to be set in stone from the moment they secured the theatre - rehearsals from February 11th, previews from 4th April and opening on 22nd April.

IMHO they've cut and run when the show was beginning to get positive word of mouth and lost everything when abit of speculation to accumulate may have been wiser.

yes, it seems ridiculous to spend so long on a production, only to rush it onto stage unfinalised, and to then take it off so very early.

It must have cost a fortune employing the likes Of Trevor for so long - and then not wait to recoup, most shows need a year on stage to get their money back - why so much effort into something so huge without the backup funds in place. It seems just plain bad management, its been so low key and half hearted from the start compared with the hype some musicals get.

I've seen that a lot like eg the last blog review I posted here - went unwillingly with her mother, curious to see it but reluctant, never read the book or seen the film but ended loving it so much, she stood up at the end, although she doesn't usually at shows.

The whole cast is superb but the 'money' scenes are definitely the Rhett/Scarlett confrontations. How any critics could say they lacked sexual chemistry is beyond me. They are not supposed to be all over each other all of the time. During Just Two!, Rhett is supposed to be drunken, enraged by jealousy and determined to be master in his own house not driven by lust.

I think buying the rights to "Frankly" was an excellent decision. The audiences want to hear that line and Darius gets a great reaction when he delivers it in his own style.

my comment about buying frankly was lighthearted, re the money running out..

although it isnt in the book, and I for one wouldnt have missed the frankly, does Rhett say i dont give a damn in the book when he enlists? people behind me, two elerly women were saying that he didnt and was it the end of the show as he says it at the end..I must admit to wondering why they felt the need to put it in there too, the chap they were with (who incidently was saying he was enjoying the show) said perhaps they paid so much they wanted to use it as much as possible.

Yes Rhett does says "I don't give a damn" in that scene in the book but not in the way Darius uses it on stage.

"I'm not asking you to understand or forgive. I don't give a damn whether you do either, for I shall never understand or forgive myself for this idiocy."

ah, yes - mmm, I think they possibly should have left it more like in the book, I had to chuckle listening to the ladies behind debating whether it was the end and what could possibly come in act two.
I loved hearing the old man being helped out by an usher saying 'At least they have a happy ending this time' The usher said that he didn't think it was. It seems because Darius was very supportive of Jill and held her tightly, he'd taken it that Rhett would come back to Scarlett and it would all work out right in the end.

lol, yes, I think it left the way open when he said he would be back as often as needed to stop gossip - no talk of divorce

and at the end, all the cast gather

..then from the blackness at the back, Rhett reappears and joins them..it did, strangley make me make up a happy ending, that indeed Scarlett did win him back, or at least would try to.

Yes I suppose that can seem confusing if you don't realise it's the finale.

Perhaps Darius should have remained off stage during Gone With The Wind and then the whole cast left the stage and returned to take their bows in the normal way and Rhett could have come back on then.

I love him walking through though. At the very end, they all sing pwerfully and Darius' voice is brilliant and carries above everyone elses.
I have to say that on the saturday night the funniest thing happened, dont know if you saw it, it wasnt on stage but a gentleman got up from the front side row to go presumably to the loo and he went long the walkway used by the the soldiers coming back just as they were limping along and he was with them, it was so funny, he didnt know whazt to do, and my husband laughed which he shouldnt have done as it was a serious moment but it was funny. It was a wonderful wonderful show and I cant believe it is no more. Since I saw it before Darius and jill have grow so much in their roles and were outstanding. All the cast were great and I also loved the songs. Cant believe we will not get a cd of this and I would love a dvd but it seems we are always unlucky.. I find it hard that this show has suffered like it has when there is so much dross out there. I cant stop thinking how brilliant D was, just hope someone out there realises this.

aww, it makes me want to go see it again, and I know I never shall - I still ahve little snap shots of scenes in my head fo rnow, thank god we have so many pictures!

It sounds like there was a lot of fun even though it was such a sad time for them all.

I can just see that man trying to get to the loo I think I would have laughed if I had seen it :D
