Sorry, Preston, my comment wasn't aimed at you. It's just that the fewer people who read sarcastic comments

about GWTW and Darius, the better. In all probability the person who posted that hadn't even seen the show.

I'm glad you posted, Preston. It's good to know people are looking out for Darius. I just felt the person who wrote that wasn't really worth anything for his opinion. I'm still glad you looked though.

Did we have the article these are from. It's the 18th April. Probably did, it was nothing special. I just couldn't remember an article with the pics.

Thanks Meg, I've added it to the reviews but it should really be with info....I may change it one day.

The title was a red herring they didn't do it justice....just to catch the reader....neither did the photos fit.

It was from the video interviews mainly.

April 18th - 4 days before opening and they were still calling him Pop Idol Loser .

I wasn't in any doubt that Darius would be a great Rhett but I tell you my heart was in my mouth that opening night waiting for the reviews, because the publicity beforehand had mostly been slanted against Darius eg that long piece in the Daily Mail magazine.

He rose to the challenge magnificently and didn't let the occasion faze him in the slightest.

Why is it deemed necessary for Darius to always overcome the same prejudices based on the earliest moments of his career - to prove them wrong over and over?

I honestly can't think of one other person with his level of success behind him that this happens to. He should be given credit for his achievements.

If what I'd said as a teenager was held against me now, I would feel really peeved.

The trouble is that there has not been such a successful fall-guy since D's time in the first musical reality show. Because it was the

first, it had unprecedented success, and exposure to a far greater audience than would now watch that type of show. So D made

a big impression on a huge number of people, and unfortunately, being a somewhat naive teenager, he was exploited by the

producers in the interests of the show.

And now, years later, the media are still cashing in on that naivety, knowing that, due to that huge exposure, the majority of the

population will recall D's early antics but be unaware of the success he has had since.

I think using terms like Pop Idol Loser is maliciously designed to shove the Jack-in-a box back in, every time he dares to spring up.

WOS TV: Polycarpou Hits Back at Imagine This Critics

Date: 19 December 2008

On the eve of the early closure of so-called "holocaust musical" Imagine This (See News, 8 Dec 2008), here's an exclusive interview with leading cast member Peter Polycarpou, who shares with Whatsontage.com his reactions to the raft of poor reviews the show received and comments on the wider issue of musicals and the critical establishment.

Imagine This follows in the footsteps of many new musicals which have struggled to survive in the West End this year. Other notable casualties include its predecessor at the New London theatre, Trevor Nunn's epic musical retelling of Gone With the Wind. which closed after only two months (See News, 31 May 2008).

Polycarpou was speaking at the launch of the Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers' Choice Awards 09, held on 5 December at the London Hippodrome, where the shortlists for this year's awards were announced. Imagine This is nominated in four categories, including Best New Musical (See News, 5 Dec 2008).

Imagine This producer Beth Trachtenberg recently placed blame for the show’s “forced” early closure squarely on the shoulders of critics, many of whom attacked the musical for exploiting and trivialising the Holocaust (See Review Round-up, 20 Nov 2008). In a recent statement, Trachtenberg said: “Night after night we have seen audiences stirred to the depths of their emotions by this show. Fundamentally I do not think the critics should be making a moral judgment over the subject matter and moreover that they are generally not prepared to embrace musicals.”

I'll second that. When did they suddenly have the power to destroy a good show with glee.
Critics are yet anither branch of the media, which wields far too much power.
Although Imagine appears to have had a shorter run than GWTW, it seems that it will get a cd which is so annoying.
That seems so unfair. Unless the CD is carried over from its Plymouth premiere ?
