January 8, 200916 yr Just before I went on holiday , I found another great review for Darius for GWTW so i bookmarked the page in order to find and post it when I got back. Wrong decision I'm afraid - while I was away, they've taken off all reviews other than those of shows which are still running.
January 8, 200916 yr Never mind, if all goes well there should be plenty of news in 2009, if D does become more visibly active, as he has forecast.
January 8, 200916 yr Horrrible thought of him being less visible Seriously thout, if GWTW hadn't happenned he would have been seen more last year - it's just a year later than planned.
January 9, 200916 yr Author mm. I am not holding my breath - it seems whatever darius does is beset by problems, like he's on a proverbial pulled rug!
January 9, 200916 yr mm. I am not holding my breath - it seems whatever darius does is beset by problems, like he's on a proverbial pulled rug! Nothing ever seems easy for him. Sue
January 10, 200916 yr Not GWTW Early Chicago, but an article and small pic I don't remember seeing before. http://209.85.229.132/search?q=cache:o2d2v...cd=30&gl=uk
January 11, 200916 yr Not GWTW Early Chicago, but an article and small pic I don't remember seeing before. http://209.85.229.132/search?q=cache:o2d2v...cd=30&gl=uk Thanks BT that was good to read.
January 11, 200916 yr Thanks BT, I haven't seen that before. Yes he does look happy doesn't he? Wish we could see him looking like that now. Sue
January 11, 200916 yr Snippet froM wos re Andrew lloyd webbers show to come, a follow up to Phantom of the opera which he is writing at the moment. Post on WOS - AWL was at GWTW, talent spotting. and Darius Danesh's name has cropped up after his acclaimed performances in Chicago, Guys and Dolls and GWTW. Having watched the video of his performance of Bet Middlers from a distance on his myspace page I could see him as having the command and stature to play the role and his voice has deepened and matured somewhat, Phantom does need someone with presence. Wonder who the poster is. My thoughts on that are that this is another new show which may not be guaranteed success.
January 11, 200916 yr I think ALW is planning to open three shows in three different countries simultaneously ( London, New York and Shanghai)so London may not be on the cards even if D is being considered for the part. From an article I read ALW already seems to be pretty certain who will play the Phantom in 'Love Never Dies'. Names being suggested are Gerard Butler and Hugh Jackman. In view of GWTW's fate, D could be taking a huge risk if he accepted another lead in an untried show, as Preston says. It would be a huge decision to have to make.......I wouldn't like to be faced with that decision. It could make or break his career. Edited January 11, 200916 yr by Bramley
January 12, 200916 yr It's good to know that Darius's name cropped up and that ALW was interested, but like you say, another new show sets alarm bells ringing! Sue
January 12, 200916 yr I'm sure Darius would think carefully about taking on another role but I think he is wanting to concentrate on his long awaited album....it keeps being put on the back burner and then he seems to have doubts and changes it. I really need some new music :(
January 12, 200916 yr Isn't the new Phantom musical supposed to be set 25 years after the original one, in which the Phantom was supposed to be considerably older than Christine ? Wouldn't that mean the Phantom would be about 50+? Isn't it more likely that if Darius was being considered at all, it would be for the role of Raoul, who would still be much older than Darius himself ? Personally, I didn't like Gerard Butler as the Phantom in the film. Have we had this review of GWTW before? http://74.125.77.132/search?q=cache:xoG7jw...d=138&gl=uk
January 12, 200916 yr Thanks for that Baytree, I felt that was a true review which I dont remember seeing before from someone who had actually seen it.
January 13, 200916 yr Good review, BT, wish they had all been like that. The new Phantom musical moves forward ten years, and is re-located from Paris to Brooklyn's Coney Island. We saw how D aged with grey powdered hair in GWTW.......I'm sure he could handle an older role if he so wanted.
January 13, 200916 yr Thanks, Bramley. 10 years? I'm sure Darius would have the talent to play either Raoul or the Phantom. IMHO Darius shouldn't consider MT roles again until the end of this year. He's made his mark in MT. He needs to move on if he wants to keep all the plates spinning and get his album out this year. He should get his butt back here and make himself more visible than theatre work permits. However if the Phantom follow-up becomes a possibility, he will have to weigh up the pros and cons. Could he turn down the opportunity to work with ALW on a project which is obviously so close to ALW's heart? ALW will do everything in his power to ensure it's a success. There'll be no lack of publicity for it. Tbh, I think ALW has already chosen his Phantom - the current one, who has done all 3 workshops including it's said, the final sing through. Re the review of GWTW, I feel it was very harsh on Jill - how could her accent sound English when she's an American? I wasn't aware of her Southern accent slipping at all when I went to see the show. I thought she was brilliant throughout. Darius was really, really impressive - yes - however to say he wiped the floor with the rest of the cast, does them all a great disservice.
January 13, 200916 yr Author thaks BT, how wonderful - and to hear the voices too - I got a lump in my throat and could see the stage, I really did enjoy the show so much - I can still see the images of that scene in my mind listening to it. and have to say each time I went Darius sounded better and better, can you imagine if it had been given longer to iron out all the changes etc. grrr what a waste of a great show!!!!
