August 2, 200816 yr Last stretch for Rupert now and he'll be joined by his 10min older twin big brother Will today, :cheer: Rupert will be on This Morning on monday morning and Richard and Judy on monday tea-time. :D http://img.mediaspanonline.com/6303/2919484.jpg August 01, 2008 Rupert Young's Pedalo Challenge Blog - Day 16 So much for messing about on the river - today things got dangerous! There's a totally different sort of water as you come into London and for the first time I've actually thought, 'I'm going down here'. The river suddenly felt very big and wide and me and my little pedalo felt very small indeed. The wind and choppiness were really bad, so the waves were coming in over the pedalo...I was bailing like never before! Quite scary! Still, I had quite a short trip tonight, thanks to the tide which was on my side, thankfully! Set off at 5.00pm and arrived in Putney at 5:45pm, to be greeted by some of Will's fans, so thanks to Mary, Carly, Surahi and Julie for coming down to cheer me on at today's finish line. If they hang about until tomorrow they might meet the man himself. Not the one who's been doing all the hard work, I might add! But Will's going to join me from Putney Bridge down to the finish line at Grosvenor Bridge, Pimlico. Now, I've got to make a final push for donations. What am I doing all this for? The Mood Foundation, a charity I founded to help support people with depression and mental illnesses. I want to raise £50,000 and if I've counted my pennies right, I think we're nearly there. So please, please make a donation - however big or small, it will make a difference. And to find out more about the charity itself, click here. We're just short of the total so a final push tomorrow and we should make the £50k. And if you need any extra incentive....if we make the £50,000....Will's going for a swim! See you tomorrow, land-lubbers! Rupert x

August 3, 200816 yr August 03, 2008 Day 17 - the final chapter! http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a379/dafyd/2922549.jpg Wow, I've done it! It's finally all over...and I mean it, if anyone sees me near a pedalo again, you have my permission to shoot me!!! Will keeps saying I should take it up and down the canals of Britain, but I think I'm going to need some time on dry land for a while before I even start thinking about that!! What a fabulous day today as well. I was joined by my brother William and our friend Karen, for the final push. It wasn't a long journey, but the water in that part of the river is quite dangerous, so we needed a rescue boat to come along with us... just in case! There were a few points where I though we might be needing it too! The water got really choppy with all the other boats using the river, and the current was also pretty strong. Will started to cheat by using his hands to push on his knees to keep the peddles going, but it was great to have him and Karen along for the ride. London looks so beautiful from that view point. I loved going under all the bridges and was even getting tour information from the guys on the support boat! When we reached the final bridge, I was pretty overcome with emotion. It's been such an important journey for me and the awareness it's generated for the charity has been amazing. Fund raising wise, we almost made out target £50,000, though there's still money coming in all the time, so I'm confident with your help, we'll break the total in a week or so once everything's been totted up. If you haven't donated before now, please spare us a few pennies by going to our Just Giving page. The pedalo will now be rented out, and will hopefully continue bringing in the much needed funds to keep the charity going. I thought it was nice touch that we were able to give it a bit of a victory tow back up the river, not least because it meant we finally got into a speedboat...no more peddling!!!! It was also so nice to see everyone who came out to cheer us on today...one little lad even greeted us with our very own trumpet fanfare as we came into dock! I'd like to thank everyone who's helped along the way, from Bear Grylls, Dermot O'Leary, Rachel Stevens and of course Will, to all the boat houses that have let me moor up overnight, Magic 105.4 for letting everyone know about us and most of all, all the people who came along to cheer me on and donated through the webpages. I really couldn't have done it without all you guys, and I really appreciate your support. Well that's it from me for now. Next up - panto (oh no it isn't....!) Be sure to check out The Mood Foundation website for all the details on that one - hopefully I'll get to see a few of you in the audience at Christmas. Until then. Thanks again. Love Rupert x Trust brother William. Edited August 3, 200816 yr by chrysalis
