June 1, 200619 yr Love his work and my fav is actually The Shining - which usually runs pretty low on the critics' Kubrick lists. But I am partial to horror films. And there is sooo much that is so genius about that film, I wouldn't even know where to begin.

Well as i've never seen a Kubrick film i cant give criticism. one of those directors that always crop up like lindsay anderson in the history of british film making. Always things like saying an old beaten up power station was used for vietnam as he didnt like travelling overseas from his British base. (dont know if it was just flying that he didnt like or that he couldnt be bothered. but it does give me the impression that the trip over from the States in the early 60s must have been rotten :lol: :lol: if he wasnt arsed going hollywood ) however no doubt 'clockwork orange' will pop up on filmfour when it goes free in july (probably presented by Gnarls Barkley :lol: in a season) and one day i wanna get round to watching dr stangelove as peter sellers is supposed to be genius in it.

I've never really understood the snootiness of some critics towards "The Shining", I've always found it to be a slow-burning thriller packed full of unbelievable tension and menace... Most of the current crop of today's so-called "horror" films could learn a hell of a lot about shocks and sustaining tension from that film... It's really hard for me to pick a favourite Kubrick film as all have something to recommend them, but "Paths of Glory" and "Full Metal Jacket" would rank pretty bloody highly, as would the astounding "2001"....

Most of the horror films released today have been pants thats why ive started getting dvd world as it always tells you about very obscure random nasties from the 60s 70s. some of these will be coming out on tartans new grindhouse label. which should be alrighty
June 1, 200619 yr who takes honestly the slightest bit of notice of critics? The Shining remains Kubrick's masterpiece - whilst I love all his movies bar the atrocious Eyes Wide Shut, The Shining is a staggering achievement. Menacing, truly scary and beautiful at the same time. It shows the quality tolerance of Stephen King that he actually hated the film himself and made that toe-curlingly awful remake of his. Yeuch. Only Misery, Green Mile and possibly Carrie, out of all the King adaptations, have worked on the big screen.

Check out this site: http://www.drummerman.net/shining/music.html Amazing that Kubrick ditched the entire score at the last minute and found these bizarre, disturbing compositions that had been previously recorded. Obviously, their synchronization with the visuals in the film is FLAWLESS.
