Ok, how many of you jizz monkeys have experienced the amazingness that is Rome?

Possibly one of the best programmes to grace the pissed drenched swamps that is today's TV it has an excellent blend of drama, action, humour, sex and horrifing brutality (at parts). Brilliant acting, brilliant script and the best part it is factually correct for the most part.

Anyone else but me love it?

Well, I reckon historians would argue with you there John... But it is a pretty excellent "Sword and Sandals" saga... Miles better than rubbish like '300'....

Well historians all have their own opinions on things so i wouldn't be surprised..... when i mean it was correct i mean that Ceasar was knifed to confettey on the senate floor, Marc Antony did flee to egypt and commited suicide shortley followed by Cleopatra after civil war with Octavian, etc etc.....

It's just the rather "soap opera" way the facts are being presented though John that historians would object to, I wont deny it makes for great telly, but it unfortunately does make rather bad history... There are some pretty glaring inaccuracies as well.... Historians do tend to base their opinions on fact and meticulous research mate.... ;)

I would've liked to have seen a drama based around Rome which didn't revolve around Julius, Mark Anthony, etc, that's been done quite a lot of times in films, Plays, etc... A series about the Roman Empire could've been this MASSIVE epic had they started it from its origins, Romulus and Remus and working all the way through to the fall of the Empire; obviously including the period of Julius, Mark Anthony, Cleopatra, Octavian, but not focussing entirely on this period of the Roman Empire.....

That would probably take about 10 or 15 seasons to achieve, but the scope would've been totally impressive....

Agreed on both accounts.

i think they foccused on that time because it was the last civil war within the empire and a time of great change... it would make for the best TV. But yeah i wish they had done more, i was pissed off when i heard there wasn't to be a 3rd series.

Yeah i started watching it 1/4 through the second series. I cant believe they didnt do a third - i must get the dvd's.
