Posted June 15, 200817 yr Arthur Matas, Professor of Surgery at the University of Minnesota, said that the argument for a regulated system where the Government paid people to donate their organs under strict controls was simple. "Even if all potential deceased donors became actual donors, there would still be a substantial shortage of organs", he explained. Timothy Statham, chief executive of the National Kidney Federation, welcomed the suggestion of a regulated system of payments for donors. Every year 400 people in Britain die while waiting for an organ transplant. Is this a good idea with life-saving potential? Or do you think it could backfire, perhaps discouraging relatives from donating their organs if they knew the state would pay someone else to do so? Would you be happy for the Government to pay for organs? Is this an area which should be exempt from commerce? Do you see it as acceptable for people to receive payment for organs? June 16, 200817 yr nope.... because it opens the door for abuse. a gambler for eg might be tempted to sell organs to fuel his addiction.. There are a lot of other ways to make money to fuel an addition besides donating organs  Should we ban these too?
June 16, 200817 yr There are a lot of other ways to make money to fuel an addition besides donating organs  Should we ban these too? the topic isnt about fueling an addiction, its about being payed for organ donation of which i gave gambling as one example of how the notion could be abused.

June 17, 200817 yr If it is going to help the lack of available organs that is a problem in this country then no objections but this whole idea does seem a bit unethical
