Maison Williams - Classical gas , ok ive mentioned this recently , but its a corking track from '68, :) Duncan Browne - Journey super little single from '72, shoulda been huge! Labi Sifre - It must be love ok madness did a decent cover but this track was the original from '72 was superb. Gordon Giltrap - Heartsong used on a holiday programme, one hit wonder from 78. Donovan - Catch the wind britains answer to dylan, tbh i prefer donovan! this was one of his best imho. Gordon Lightfoot - The wreck of the edmund fitzgerald another recent topic, but imho he was bloody good! i might have to add more if i remember any! duncan browne - journey AS1bvFmwtsA gordon giltrap - heartsong ETnE6xKcS2E
June 17, 200817 yr What can I say. Sometimes you amaze me Rob! I love that selection. It goes without saying that the Mason Williams tune is just, well - classic! I love the Gordon Giltrap one too - went to see him at the Preston Guildhall in the early 80's - brilliant guitarist. It's your inclusion of the Duncan Browne one that brings back such great memories though. We used to go to a folk club in Rainford (Golden Lion pub) every Sunday night - about 30 years ago and the resident band there played that song every week (they'd have been lynched if they didn't). The same band also played a number of John Martyn songs one of which was this ... and I think you'll like it! Or at least I hope you do! LOi_wxypeGc Norma
June 17, 200817 yr Author What can I say. Sometimes you amaze me Rob! I love that selection. Norma why?... because i have an image as an angry old punk?... nah... like ive posted on another thread, i like what i like and wont be told what to like and what not too. musical taste should be varied to give a flavour to all of lifes different facets. if a song hits me here (points) then it does. havnt listend to that track as i have the tv on, not the sound. :)
June 17, 200817 yr why?... because i have an image as an angry old punk?... Not really - I just imagined you as a hairy arsed old biker! No offense! Norma
June 17, 200817 yr Author Not really - I just imagined you as a hairy arsed old biker! No offense! Norma  nah.... i regard myself as having many influences, im part hippy, part punk, part mod, part rocker... never embraced any one particular fashion. i guess my attire owes more to the 'ex biker' look then any other.... but im not hairy... (fine hair, long but not thick :( ).

June 17, 200817 yr A good thread, but I'm incredibly surprised you could only come up with half a dozen selections. If anything I'm having trouble getting this below two dozen selections.

June 18, 200817 yr Author ok.... listen to this! talk about 'retro'... this is medieval! martin carthy 'famous flower of serving men'.. a great traditional folk song :) u2K7HcYld5s
June 18, 200817 yr There's loads I'd like to add - but I can't find links on Youtube. ELO's Jumpin' Biz is one of them! Also - I've found some that I'm not sure would be classed as 'accoustic' or 'folk' so I wont. I'm thinking especially of Pentangles Night Flight! Norma

June 18, 200817 yr Are you limiting it to just one song per artist you've mentioned???
June 19, 200817 yr OK, Here goes, for the purposes of acoustic, I've excluded piano led songs, focusing on guitar based tunes ..... Vol.1 1. Bob Dylan - The Times They Are A Changin' - This timeless anthem is as relevent now for as it was back in the 1960s. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-D9S48A81os 2. Simon and Garfunkel - Homeward Bound - Like Dylan's canon, one of a number of songs that I could have selected from the Paul Simon songbook. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=sI0enx_Jnqc 3. Joni Mitchell - Both Sides Now - Forget the Judy Collins smash hit version, listen to the version by the original writer. Again one of many Joni songs that I could have selected. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=bcrEqIpi6sg 4. Donovan - Colours - For me the superior follow up to Catch The Wind, although I nearly selected the Vietnam protest song "To Susan On The West Coast Waiting" instead. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=GX3AnhefltM 5. Tim Buckley - Song To The Siren - Father of Jeff, this song haunting song has taken on a life all of its own with covers from the likes of This Mortal Coil, Mike Oldfield featuring Sally Oldfield on vocals; Robert Plant; David Gray & a future August 2008 release by George Michael. h89AKTkGyeM 6. Tom Rush - No Regrets - The original 1968 version of the 1976 Walker Brothers monster hit single. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=BizvAGttPAA 7. Nick Drake - Northern Sky - Quite simply one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard by one of the most beautiful vulnerable male vocalists of all-time. 1oitSlHi3MY 8. Cat Stevens - Lady d'Arbanville - My favourite track by the future Yusuf Islam is Sad Lisa but as that is piano based, I had to pick this track that gave his career a second wind back at the beginning of the 1970s. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=h61ffFRFmxw 9. James Taylor - Fire and Rain - Well it would be difficult doing a compiliation like this and not including one of his songs, so I went for this his most autobiographical song. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=64_303eHaTM 10. Gordon Lightfoot - If You Could Read My Mind - This is one of my all time favs.. just sends shivers through your whole body and a lump in ones throat. A beautiful song. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Yk1md5IikWk 11. Jim Croce - I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song - Well I avoided going for the obvious Time In A Bottle, as for me this is a much nicer song. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=GFT34H1MfE8 12. Ralph McTell - Streets Of London - A brilliant social commentary wrapped up in a timeless folk song. VmKMQI9mbZ8

I'd agree on that - it would be my favourite Croce song if it wasn't for You Don't Mess Around With Jim and Operator. Norma Edited June 19, 200817 yr by Norma_Snockers
