I grow weeds good for the wildlife. It's only things that I plant that seem to be eaten though.

Have you found any of the newly-discovered Welsh white slug? It won't attack the plants as it is

carniverous. It eats earthworms. We are supposed to report it if we find one.

I thought I'd be catching up on here today but my heart just isn't in it after hearing about Helen.

I know she would want our community to continue as normal, so I'll try to come back on later.

I have at last found the thread on .net.

I know exactly what you mean BT....I was like that this morning...took till late afternoon before I could post on .net

..but DD would want us to keep posting as you say

I think it's been a dampner on us all. If she hadn't been so lovely or had seemed less healthy maybe we'd have been less shocked.

It's taken me all day to get my head around it.

However, watching the video for Live Twice made me cry and I feel a little better now.

I had to do something active so I've set up my DVD/VCR recorder and I'm trying my first copy from VCR to DVd now. I was waiting up any way because I wanted to catch my son and daughter-in-law before they start the drive to Montreal to catch their direct flight to Greece.

The machine also apparently records from DVD to VCR. I can't think of any time I'd choose to do that, but I'll have to try it once to see if it works anyway.

I must think about getting one of those. It really would make life easier - do the DVDs only take an hour though?

It depends on the quality you set - apparently a DVD can only take one hour of high quality recording. It should be fine for most of my Darius bits and pieces. I'm not that interested in all the other things in the same shows and I've always wanted to edit them anyway.

I've no idea what the quality setting was last night because I didn't figure out how to set it. it must have used a default setting.

Last night was just to see if the machine did the job. I just took an old video (not a D one) and recorded the whole thing on to DVD. I managed to finalise it so it would play on other DVD players but I've still to work out how to put a title on the disk.

I've plenty to learn but it's a start.

Gadgets go one way or the other with me, especially kitchen gadgets - either I use them all the time or they remain hidden away in a cupboard.

I hope to make good use of this one.

I had a stroke of luck in Paris and I managed to buy the HP printer cartridge I'd looked for all over Glasgow for about a month. I'd begun to think I'd need to buy a new printer.

And I got it half price in the Summer sales there!

But I do love that calendar, Meg. You can feel the quality.

I rather think it might have been the quantity more than the quality which made your poor printer so ill.

Domestic printers just aren't built for too many prints - or thick card either. I may buy a new one before Darius does anything else major.

Have you ever thought about a reconditioned second hand one?

I once bought a reconditioned office photocopier instead of the mini Xerox home use one I'd had previously and it made such a difference.
