May 31, 200619 yr Really pleased for all Will's SA fans. :cheer: He's had AMAZING sales success there considering he has never visited. With every day I become more & more confused about Will's overseas promo. Looks like his break could start next year. Well he never did like January in the UK. :P

Well he never did like January in the UK. :P You're not the only one becoming confused about Wills overseas promo ;) After all but writing it off on the Will in Italy thread, I'm beginning to wonder if there's a whole other meaning to Wills long break. I had visions of him backpacking round some remote cities in the Indian sub continent. Perhaps he means he's taking a break from us here in the UK while he plies his music travelling around the World. I don't think he'd advertise the fact that he's trying to break in another country, perhaps what we've heard before is 'Will speak' for exactly that

Marguerite I'm glad I'm not the only one confused about Will's overseas plans. He definitely gives us plenty to think about. Remember the story we heard of him interviewing backing singers to take on the road. Don't think Will would want to go to other countries in a blaze of publicity, in all the teen mags & singing to backing tracks on countless tv shows. Maybe he still plans to get himself known but over a longer period of time doing gigs in different countries.
May 31, 200619 yr Great news for our SA peeps. He may not have promoted over there but he is known over there TT - he shot SIO there don't forget, and has sold quite well too. They are so excited too - :cheer: Edited May 31, 200619 yr by munchkin

June 10, 200619 yr SA Newspaper Report posted by willsdoc on Devoted. MUSIC SA feels like home for Will June 10, 2006 By Sheree Russouw British pop star Will Young was 11 when he came to South Africa on holiday with his parents, and he remembers he was "really homesick" for a month after he returned to England. In November, Young will be coming "home" again when he performs in South Africa for the Unite of the Stars Gala Banquet, which raises funds for local charities. Young, the first winner of the UK reality show Pop Idol in 2002 and of two subsequent Brit Awards, is to perform alongside '80s group Bananarama, Italian crooner Patrizio Buanne and jazz musician Renee Olstead in five concerts around the country 'I have seen the beauty of Africa' . Speaking to the Saturday Star from England this week, the 26-year-old Young said his upcoming tour would be the seventh time he had visited South Africa. He has also travelled to Tanzania, Kenya and Malawi. "I've always had an affinity for South Africa and have also always enjoyed the history of Africa. "I think it's the fact that anthropologically, it's the centre of the Earth. It has such roots and you seem to feel that when you're there, especially when you go to the bush." The South Africa he visited as a child had transformed for the better, he added. "I guess South Africa is like many other countries in that it's struggling against its past, but I think it's winning more than losing. "I have seen the beauty of Africa - it's not that there aren't complications. But I think you have to spend a lot of time in a place to understand it and love it," he said. But there are likely to be no game drives for Young in November. "I'm just looking at my diary and I'm really pretty busy, so I'll probably be heading back home after the concerts," he said. Four years and four albums after Pop Idol, Young has clinched four number one singles, two number one albums and reportedly sold out his last tour in 30 minutes. He was recently voted the UK's favourite artist of all time in a radio poll, ahead of Robbie Williams and the legendary Paul McCartney. But he is humble. "It's very flattering, but I don't think it's true… I'm still a long way off from what I should be doing. But I think you'll always feel that way." Young serves as an ambassador for several youth, domestic-violence and women's charities. "I believe you can give a lot back. You should - it doesn't matter what position you're in. But I'm lucky that I can help from my position," he said. Will refers to be being busy. Looks as if he might be rushing back to the UK to rehearse for the play.

June 11, 200619 yr How many pop singers would use a word like "anthropologically" in an interview? We've picked a good'un here!
